11 things Obama Care Brings

Some times miracles DO happen; the USSC upholds the Affordable Care Act.

[...After the ACA's passage in 2010, Mother Jones' Nick Baumann listed 10 ways Obama's signature health care law will impact the healthy and sick, young and old, rich and poor. Here they are:

1) Insurance companies can no longer impose lifetime coverage limits on your insurance. Never again will you face the risk of getting really sick and then, a few months in, having your insurer tell you, "Sorry, you've 'run out' of coverage." Almost everyone I've met knows someone who had insurance but got really, really sick (or had a kid get really sick) and ran into a lifetime cap.

2) If you don't know someone who has run into a lifetime cap, you probably know someone who has run into an annual cap. The use of these will be sharply limited. (They'll be eliminated entirely in 2014.)...]

Homeless Children in America

Update: That didn't take long.  Jesus, Rick, didn't our Jesus say let the little children come to Him?  That level of concern indicates to me He wants even poor children to get health care under Medicaid, to have roofs over their heads, to start a school day without belly pains from hunger.

Rick, you coulda thought about it a couple days instead of showiing what a heartless and cruel bastard you are.

Fie on thee thou craven poltroon!

[Florida Gov. Rick Scott said Friday it’s unlikely that Florida will expand its Medicaid program in order to lower the number of uninsured residents...

According to Census data released last year, Florida had the nation’s third-highest rate of residents without health insurance during the past three years.]
http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/06/29/2874460/gov-rick-scott-says-he-likely.html

Surely, Governor 48.9% in FL will take the extra funds from federal governement so homeless children can get health care at least.

[The U.S. Education Department reported that, for the first time, the number of homeless students in America topped one million by the end of the 2010-2011 school year. These kids live in shelters and on the streets, and increasingly in hotels and on the couches of friends and relatives. On one hotel-lined stretch of highway -- a road leading to Disney World -- Nilan heard of schools where there are as many as 25 homeless students in classes of 28. The government report said 1,065,794 homeless kids were enrolled in schools in the 2010-2011 school year, an increase of 13 percent from the previous year and 57 percent since the start of the recession in 2007.

"The number is horrifyingly high but it probably is half of what the number really could be if the kids could be counted," said Nilan. The count doesn't include homeless infants, children not enrolled in school, and homeless students that schools simply failed to identify.]

Obama Care Keeping People Like Erin Alive

Little Girl Murdered by US Drones

[May 30, 2012
Around midnight on May 21, 2010, a girl named Fatima was killed when a succession of U.S.-made Hellfire missiles, each of them five-feet long and traveling at close to 1,000 miles per hour, smashed a compound of houses in a mountain village of Mohammed Khel in North Waziristan along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. Wounded in the explosions which killed a half dozen men, Fatima and two other children were taken to a nearby hospital where they died a few hours later.

Behram Noor, a Pakistani journalist, went to the hospital and took a picture of Fatima shortly before her death, then went back to the scene of the explosions looking for evidence that might show who was responsible for the attack. In the rubble, he found a mechanism from a U.S.-made Hellfire missile, and gave it to Reprieve, a British organization opposed to capital punishment, which shared photographs of the material with Salon. Stafford Smith alluded to the missile fragments in an Op-Ed piece for the New York Times last fall. They have also been displayed in England.]

Death of the Middle Class in America: "When floodwaters cover our homes, we expect that FEMA workers with emergency checks and blankets will find us."

Do you think the Romney's ever had to park their precious horse in a church parking lot?

[Every night around nine, Janis Adkins falls asleep in the back of her Toyota Sienna van in a church parking lot at the edge of Santa Barbara, California. On the van's roof is a black Yakima SpaceBooster, full of previous-life belongings like a snorkel and fins and camping gear. Adkins, who is 56 years old, parks the van at the lot's remotest corner, aligning its side with a row of dense, shading avocado trees. The trees provide privacy, but they are also useful because she can pick their fallen fruit, and she doesn't always have enough to eat. Despite a continuous, two-year job search, she remains without dependable work. She says she doesn't need to eat much – if she gets a decent hot meal in the morning, she can get by for the rest of the day on a piece of fruit or bulk-purchased almonds – but food stamps supply only a fraction of her nutritional needs, so foraging opportunities are welcome...

...There is no moral or substantive difference between a hundred-year flood and the near-destruction of the global financial system by speculators immune from consequence. But if you and your spouse both lose your jobs and assets because of an unprecedented economic cataclysm having nothing to do with you, you quickly discover that your society expects you and your children to live malnourished on the streets indefinitely...

The Great Recession cost 8 million Americans their jobs. Three years after the economy technically entered recovery, there are positions available for fewer than one out of every three job seekers. In this labor market, formerly middle-class workers like Curtis and Concita Cates and Janis Adkins and Sean Kennan cannot reliably secure even entry-level full-time work, and many will never again find jobs as lucrative and stable as those they lost. Long-term unemployment tarnishes résumés and erodes basic skills, making it harder for workers to regain high-paying jobs, and the average length of unemployment is currently at a 60-year high. Many formerly middle-class people will never be middle-class again. Selfidentities derived from five or 10 or 40 years of middle-class options and expectations will capsize.]

Queen Ann Romney's Horse Taken Better Care of Than You

How can you spend 10 grand on clothing for a horse?  I watch all the old westerns and Marshall Dillon's horse ain't got no fancy duds.

First link in story quoted below reminds that your precious little child only worth $1000 as a tax deduction.  So the Romneys' horse is worth 70 times your kid.  Just another way tax code pays the rich and eats the poor.

The Romneys: real Americans.

[Times are tough for you, you say? Having a hard time paying your bills, getting healthcare, and clothing your kids, you say?
Maybe you should apply to be Ann Romney’s horse.
Why? Because her Olympics-bound dressage horse Rafalca is very likely doing WAY better than you.
The Romneys showed a $77,000 loss on their 2010 tax return for the care and upkeep of Rafalca. That’s more than the median household income of $51,413.
But that’s not all. According to an infographic put together by Current, Rafalca’s numbers stacked up pretty well compared with average Americans:
  • Shelter
    Average American family: $16,352
    Rafalca: $28,800
  • Clothing
    Average American family: $1,142
    Rafalca: $10,000
  • Health Care
    Average American family: $1,557
    Rafalca: $2,000
  • Transportation
    Average American family: $7,164
    Rafalca: $15,420
  • Food
    Average American family: $7,890
    Rafalca: $1,200
In fact, except for food, Rafalca does better than the average American family in pretty much all of the areas of life. If you switched to eating oatmeal and hay, you could probably get those costs down, too.
So, brush up on your piaffe skills. And your flying changes. And your half-passes. And yourpirouettes.
With any luck, you too could get a job as Ann Romney’s dancing horse. You just have to develop a taste for hay.
UPDATE: On second thought, maybe being Ann Romney’s horse isn’t such a good idea after all. Unless you’re REALLY into doing drugs:]

Mrs. Willard Romney, millionaire owner of dressage horses

Well crap, there goes my mood.  Had intended on working on happiness this Sunday, only posting light hearted fare, a little rock, a little role, maybe even some blues.

Then a quick couple of links brought me to this story about this Koch slurping whore and her million dollar freaking horse going to the mother freaking Olympics.

WTF is dressage any way?  Oh, should have guessed, dressage exists as outmoded vestige of feudal traditions now clung to by rich elites to prove they are better than the hoi poloi.

Willard and Ann, sitting in a tree, crapping money out their asses and wanting me to be freakin' beleieve they have any clue whatsoever what commoners like me feel or live like.

Mittens, you wanna get real?  Meet me at my local and I'll buy you a couple PBR tall boys, buddy.  Have you ever even drank beer from a can?

[As Ann Romney immersed herself in the elite world of riding over the last dozen years, she relied on Jan Ebeling as a trusted tutor and horse scout. In her, he found a deep-pocketed patron.

A German-born trainer and top-ranked equestrian, Mr. Ebeling was at ease with the wealthy women drawn to the sport of dressage, in which horses costing up to seven figures execute pirouettes and other dancelike moves for riders wearing tails and top hats.

A taskmaster, Mr. Ebeling pushed Mrs. Romney to excel in high-level amateur shows. He escorted her on horse-buying expeditions to Europe. She shares ownership of the Oldenburg mare he dreams of riding in the Olympic Games this summer. Mrs. Romney and her husband, Mitt, even floated a loan — $250,000 to $500,000, according to financial records — to Mr. Ebeling and his wife for the horse farm they run in California, where the Romneys use a Mediterranean-style guesthouse as a getaway...

Protective of their privacy, they may also have been wary of the kind of fallout that came after Mr. Romney’s mention of the “couple of Cadillacs” his wife owned and the disclosure of plans for a car elevator in the family’s $9 million beach house in California, which prompted criticism that Mr. Romney was out of touch with average Americans.]

Romney, Job Creator for China and India

[By Tom Hamburger, Published: June 21

Mitt Romney’s financial company, Bain Capital, invested in a series of firms that specialized in relocating jobs done by American workers to new facilities in low-wage countries like China and India.

During the nearly 15 years that Romney was actively involved in running Bain, a private equity firm that he founded, it owned companies that were pioneers in the practice of shipping work from the United States to overseas call centers and factories making computer components, according to filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

While economists debate whether the massive outsourcing of American jobs over the last generation was inevitable, Romney in recent months has lamented the toll it’s taken on the U.S. economy. He has repeatedly pledged he would protect American employment by getting tough on China....

But a Washington Post examination of securities filings shows the extent of Bain’s investment in firms that specialized in helping other companies move or expand operations overseas. While Bain was not the largest player in the outsourcing field, the private equity firm was involved early on, at a time when the departure of jobs from the United States was beginning to accelerate and new companies were emerging as handmaidens to this outflow of employment.

Bain played several roles in helping these outsourcing companies, such as investing venture capital so they could grow and providing management and strategic business advice as they navigated this rapidly developing field.]

Recession Hurts the Poor More

Pity the Billionaire in a recession only able to afford a few Escalades to go in the ocean front home so big it needs a car elevator and angers neighbors because of excessive size

At least, Mitt, cut your own lawn to look like a common man like Jr. did when pretending to run for President--thanks President Cheney--and cutting all that brush on his manly man's ranch, "No bidets for you, Laura, this is a man's ranch!"

Children go hungry in this country every day, RepubliKKKans, and bloodsucking Paul Ryan's budget takes money from the needy.

[Florida’s tough economy has proved even more challenging for those living on the state’s financial fringes, with poverty, infant mortality and an unmet need for mental health care on the rise, a new report shows.

A study called The Well Being of Florida’s Children — Is Our Future at Risk? shows the poverty rate among Florida’s children has climbed 35 percent between 2006 and 2010, resulting in 1.8 million kids living in low-income households. The state’s rate of low birth-weight infants also is worse than the national average, with 10 percent of Florida children having developmental or behavorial problems.

The number of homeless students in Florida has almost doubled since 2006 and the rate of food insecurity among Florida’s children is worse than the national average, the study found.]

Mitt Romney, Soulless Robot or Evil Intergalactic Monster?

I lean towards the former.  Let's see Willard's birth certificate.  If he can't provide it, then we need check swab to prove him human.

[In nearly 10 years as a sports parent/coach, I’ve spent a lot of time chatting with working-to-upper-middle-class parents about all things athletic. If there is one thing those parents have in common, it’s this: when they talk about sports, they don’t drop the final “s.” Unlike Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

You may have seen this clip from a recent campaign appearance pop up in recent days, but this is not his first use of “sport” instead of “sports” to describe collective physical activities. However, I think it’s the first time he’s done it twice in one sentence.

The full transcript: “”I met a guy yesterday, 7 feet tall… I figured he had to be in sport, but he wasn’t in sport!”

It seems like a silly thing to be bothered about, but the simple act of dropping that final “s” in sports is the Uncanny Valley of athletic syntax, just off slightly enough from what an actual human would say that it sounds like a little creepy, like a subtle signal an alien is trying to pass himself off as one of us. None of the people I’ve known in sportssssssssss (emphasis for Romney’s benefit) would say “is your kid playing sport” instead of “is your kid playing sports,” anymore than they would follow up their question by taking a drag through their jeweled cigarette holder, and adjusting their monocle.]
http://www.forbes.com/sites/bobcook/2012/06/14/mitt-romney-do-your-campaign-a-favor-and-stop-talking-about-sport/

It disturbs me more that Mittens seems genuinely surprised the world has seven foot humans in it, indicative of his life of privilege beyond the knowing of 99.99% of humans in America, so used to snacking on petit fours he doesn't even know what a doughnut is.

Eat the Poor: Cutting Food Stamp Assistance in a Recession

[...The farm bill being debated in the Senate reduces funding for food stamps and is finding support from both sides of the aisle as lawmakers look for ways to cut the nation's rising debt in an election year...

Trimming back on eligibility for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, as food stamps are called, would save $4 billion over the decade. Republicans are pushing to reduce that even more...

"Increased SNAP participation has helped millions of families avoid hunger during this deep recession," said Matthew Sharp, a senior advocate at California Food Policy Advocates. "We see any reduction of the size of benefits as a hit that families can't afford to take."]

In a Recession, Work to Welfare Doesn't Work So Well

Every time you hear Willard Romney or Paul "Eat the Poor" Ryan talk about converting Medicaid and other social welfare programs to block grants, remember this really means states like GA will make it as hard as legally possible to get aid and then, having arbitrarily reduced $ paid to keep people alive, will then take unspent funds to offset deficits in the general budget and pay for tax breaks for the rich and corporations.

Instead of job creators, think baby killers.

[...In Georgia, as in many states, gaining cash assistance has become increasingly difficult since the landmark welfare reform signed into law by President Clinton in 1996. Nationally, the share of poor families with children that were drawing welfare cash benefits plummeted from 68 percent to 27 percent between 1996 and 2010, according to an analysis of federal data by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP). During the same period, the number of poor families with children grew from 6.2 million to 7.3 million....

Budget shortfalls have pared the promised supports. The size of the federal TANF grants to states has stayed flat, but shrinking in inflation-adjusted terms. States are given discretion in allocating the grants, and most have diverted increasing slices of this money to plug holes in their budgets, leaving less for cash assistance.

The one feature of welfare reform that has endured, say experts, is the emphasis on slashing welfare rolls...]

Dumb and Dumberer: Bristol Palin refuses to rule out running for office

Please, gods of irony, let it become so.  Please let her become President of the United States of Accumulation so she can fill her cabinet with Kardashians.

That would bring the relatively same amount off substance as a Willard Romney presidency with policy written by the evil Karl Rove and his Satanic minions: the American Legislative Exchange Commission and the Cock brothers; eat the poor, in other words.

Before, however, dismissing Miss Palin's qualifications for office, let's take a look at them: politically connected family, yes in through the looking glass world of America politics today where even a bad "B" movie actor can get elected president and remain revered by a generation of RepubliKKKan idjuts who have less than zero clue about policies Ronnie Raygunz actually pursued, Bristol's mama served a half term as governor of Alaska and her daddy some sort of dominionist nut.

That last bit alone qualifies her for nomination by right wing RepubliKKKans.

Bristol now has a reality TV show, Life's a Tripp, which one guesses makes her "credible" as a candidate for elected office in this age of instant celebrity.

Before that, she got knocked up by not using contraception while having sex and, through some vast joke of a mysterious cosmos that sometimes promotes irony along with enforcing entropy, became a spokesman on preventing pregnancy among teenage girls.

"After Bristol Palin became a single mother at age 18, she began to publicly advocate teenage pregnancy prevention, and is now a paid speaker on the subject of teen pregnancy."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bristol_Palin#Teen_pregnancy_prevention_spokesperson

[But let's try to forget that she's the daughter of the former GOP vice presidential candidate and consider "Life's a Tripp" purely as a TV show: On that basis, well, the series, premiering Tuesday, is not very interesting, and you probably wouldn't watch if she wasn't who she is.

So who, exactly, is she? Bristol is a fairly pleasant young woman who gets to live in a Los Angeles mansion while working for a local children's charity and is particularly concerned that her younger sister, Willow, stick around L.A. because someone has to look after Tripp, the 3-year-old son of Bristol and Levi Johnston.

To be fair, she's just staying in the mansion, belonging to "friends of my parents," while she looks for her own apartment, but Bristol's experiences trying to make it on her own in Los Angeles clearly don't reflect what most 21-year-old single moms would face relocating from Wasilla, Alaska, to the City of Angels.]
emphasis added because facts make me gag.  Yes, the progeny of those painted by themselves as just common American LIVES IN A FREAKIN' MANSION IN LA!  Yup, just plain folks.

So of course it makes sense to her, with her lifetime of of conservative privilege, that she has the qualifications and experience to run for office; after all, you only need a public relations machine, catchphrase, and a gullible and illiterate public to join the ranks of political icons; actual policies be damned.

[She's famous for being a single mom, a jilted ex-girlfriend and a dancing show star, but Bristol is also a Palin. That means she gets invites to Fox News and Sean Hannity is curious about her future.

On Thursday night Palin told Hannity on his show that she would not rule out the possibility of running for office, although she felt it was too soon to make a major decision about it one way or another the Huffington Post reported.
'I don't think I'd shut it completely yet,' she said, referring to a door into a political career. 'I'm only 21, but not any time soon.']

Man Shoots Own Penis: Birth and gun control in one shot

[A Southfield man is recovering after accidentally shooting himself in the penis as he adjusted his gun, according to police.

The 45-year-old heating and air-conditioning company employee was on a job in Birmingham on Tuesday when the incident took place, Birmingham Police Deputy Chief Mark Clemence said today. He was getting ready to work and was moving the .40-caliber Glock pistol in his pants when it discharged at 11:15 a.m.

"Through and through, if you can believe it," Clemence said. "The situation could have been a lot worse. You think about it -- your femoral artery runs down there. He could have shot it off. It could have been a lot worse. It’s a big bullet; you’re not talking a small bullet."]

Department of Duh! :"When consuming raw squid, diners should remove their internal organs..."

No squid for me, thanks.  Seriously cannot make this shite up out of the air.

[The squid was partially cooked -- of course it was hot and bothered.

A woman in Seoul, Korea was eating semi-boiled squid when the cephalopod injected its sperm bag into her tongue, according to research published in February.

The unidentified woman reportedly experienced a "pricking and foreign-body sensation" while she chewed and spat the squid out. She had to go to the hospital when she felt severe pain and several "small, squirming" creepy crawlies in her mouth.

Doctors found that the squid had left "twelve small, white spindle-shaped, bug-like organisms" in the mucous membranes of her tongue and cheek.

Indeed, the woman's mouth had been essentially inseminated.

Researchers think that the squid's sperm bags came out while the woman chewed her food. Squids have "sperm bags," which are ejaculatory apparatuses that attach themselves to a female's body before slowly secreting sperm, according to Fairfax New Zealand News.

It's not the first time a squid has tried to fertilize a human mouth. There have been several incidents in Japan where people have complained of oral stings by their food, the news site reported.

When consuming raw squid, diners should remove their internal organs, or boil the tasty treat long enough to kill its sperm bags, researchers warned.

The research was published by the American Society of Parasitologists in the Journal of Parasitology.]

Back to Regularly Scheduled Outrage: Cutting Taxes LOWERS Revenue

Which of course sounds fine if you can helicopter from your Malibu beach house to where you park your private plane so you can jet off on your Presidential campaign, not having to ride on the crumbling streets of America or even deign to think about disintegrating infrastructure.

Let the peons worry about that

[The often and well debunked MYTH [EconoFact] that lower rates of taxation will generate the revenues necessary to provide essential government services simply doesn’t work in the real world in which there are pot holes in asphalt, 30 kids in a kindergarten class, not enough health inspectors to cover the number of restaurants in a single year, not enough deputies to keep trucks from speeding through small towns, aging fire fighting equipment, and what might generously be called “antique” drinking water delivery systems.]

We know how to end this depression: put people to work fixing failing bridges, aged aqueducts,  roads, and highways.

Most people define a job by whether they get a weekly paycheck, not by who signs it.  People take their pay and buy products from merchants who then hire more people while manufacturers build more and also hire.

It ain't even rocket science, people.

But RepubliKKKans want to tank the economy and then credit themselves for turning it around after the election.

Hope to John Maynard Keyenes we don't fall into a full blown recession.  Then, we all get fucked.

Except of course helicopter flying elites

Joyce’s work is so beloved by his fans that is it celebrated around the globe annually on Bloomsday, June 16. The very same date that Dedalus set out into Dublin in 1904.

IrishCentral.com have compiled a list of Dublin landmarks that are featured in the 1922 book.

Gangrenous Globalization: "The Big Mac is an icon of globalization"

Converting to Old Testament Fundamentalism

Go ahead and count me as to have to join the conservative fundamentalists in renewing my commitment towards living according to the Old Testament, starting by refusing to pay interests on debt

Well in truth, keeping living with my inability to pay any debts, but I digress.

Rest should prove easy.  Got most the the "shall nots" down and working on "shalls."

No lying. Well only lie to myself so check.

This also entails not eating dairy products and meat at same meal and think I could schedule that.

The no pork will prove pretty hard but doable: even dreaming of panoply of pork products to tempt me: BBQ ribs, brisket, bacon, pancetta, bacon ice cream, etc.  If falling to temptation, can always forgive myself by playing the Jesus card.

Of course, this starts after finishing the 3 pork loin segments in my freezer.  (Got whole loin for $1.99 per lbs and think nice honey mustard glaze will work well.  3 Tbs honey, 3 Tbs mustard, 1 1/2 Tbs red wine vinegar)

No oysters or shellfish.  Check  Wait, do lobsters and shrimps count as shellfish?  They have exoskeletons so do they count?

Plus, count me onboard with the Lord when He told the Israelites to slaughter Amalekites. Got some pretty sketchy neighbors and nice to have Biblical Old Test authority--plus Stand Your Ground Law in FL--to shoot the crap out of 'em if necessary..

Eye for an eye and a couple rounds for walking on my lawn.

Plus the OT says use of all flowerings plants allowed, so bumba lotsa ganja.

Yes, find that all doable and eminently reasonable. In fact, seems like a great deal to me, one humans have pursued throughout history.

Which proves the Jesus of the Gospels the real revolutionary.

I Believe!

"I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living."

- Psalm 27:13

Call MI Majority Leader and Say Vagina

You have got to read the whole transcript of the phone call.  Funny!

[After offending Majority Floor Leader Jim Stamas by using the offensively medically accurate word “vagina” in an impassioned floor speech opposing Michigan’s draconian new abortion law, State Representative Lisa Brown was banned indefinitely from speaking on the floor of the House of Representatives. Her colleague Barb Byrum, another passionate pro-choice elected official, was also served with an indefinite Shut The Fuck Up order from the the male-lead body. Apparently, during Michigan’s War on Women, ladies aren’t even allowed to serve in combat...

[MADISON, S.D. —

A jockstrap pulled over his head in a high school locker room more than 50 years ago provoked a 73-year-old South Dakota man to fatally shoot his long-ago classmate, a prosecutor said Friday.

Carl Ericsson of Watertown, who last month pleaded guilty but mentally ill to second-degree murder, was sentenced to life in prison Friday. Ericsson was charged in the Jan. 31 killing of retired Madison High School teacher and track coach Norman Johnson, who was shot twice in the face as he answered his front door.

Kenneth Meyer, the Lake County state's attorney, said Ericsson has indicated that the decades-old locker room incident led to the shooting. Johnson was a high school sports star and Ericsson was a student manager.

Beth Ribstein, Johnson's daughter, said her dad hadn't spoken to Ericsson for years and it was puzzling that he held onto the grudge for so long.]

What does the Bible Say About Capitalism?

Wow, not very good.  Guess the bankers should sell all they have and give it to the poor.

[He lends at interest and takes a profit.

Will such a man live? He will not! Because he has done all these detestable things, he is to be put to death; his blood will be on his own head.]

Buy an iPad, Kill a Chinese Worker

Got to love capitalism.  Start a company to make slightly superior products, sold at a 4 fold mark-up through branding and some slick but relatively inconsequential gizmos, and create a production chain based in China which literally works people to suicide, and make gazillions of dollars in the process.

What did it profit Steve Jobs to gain the world but stain his soul with such perfidy?

BEIJING —
A Foxconn Technology Group employee jumped to his death Wednesday from a company-rented apartment building in southwest China's Sichuan province, local police said.

At least a dozen Foxconn employees have jumped to their deaths or tried to do so since 2010, casting spotlight on the world's largest contract maker of electronics. The Taiwan-based company has been besieged with reports of poor working and living conditions for its workers at factories and dorms. The company installed nets in 2010 to prevent such deaths after the spate of suicides.

A public security bureau in Chengdu city announced the death Wednesday on the Sina Weibo microblogging site. The post identifies the employee only by the surname Xie and says the cause remains under investigation.

The official Xinhua News Agency said the man was 23.

In February, Foxconn — which employs about 1 million workers at its massive plants in China — said it had raised wages by up to 25 percent and that it was taking measures to limit workers' total work hours.

The plants that turn out iPhones, iPads, Xbox video game consoles, Dell and Hewlett-Packard computers, are run with military-like discipline.]

Damnit, Dad just bought me a refurbished Dell.

[TAIPEI (Reuters) - Foxconn Technology Group, the main supplier of Apple Inc , said on Thursday a worker at a Chinese plant jumped from his apartment on Wednesday, the first suicide since the company agreed with its U.S. client to improve work conditions.
The 23 year-old worker fell to his death from his apartment located outside the plant in the southwestern city of Chengdu, according to a statement by Foxconn. The worker had joined the company last month and police were investigating the death.

Apple and Foxconn reached an agreement in March to improve conditions for the 1.2 million workers assembling iPhones and iPads, a landmark decision that could change the way Western companies do business in China.

According to the agreement, Foxconn would hire tens of thousands of new workers to reduce overtime work, improve safety protocols and upgrade housing and other amenities.]

George W. Bush's Head on a Spike, Finally

No, would seriously urge no harm to come to Jr., pawn of evil President Dick Cheney.

Yet, you must admit it a bit funny.

[HBO has apologized for the use of a prosthetic George W. Bush head as a prop in beheading scenes in Game of Thrones.

The severed Bush head, which can be seen with a long ratty wig impaled on a spike in an episode from the show's first season, was used without any intentional commentary on the former president, said the show's creators. "The last head on the left is George Bush," David Benioff and D.B. Weiss noted in a commentary track on the recently released DVD of the show's first season. "George Bush’s head appears in a couple of beheading scenes. It's not a choice, it’s not a political statement. We just had to use whatever heads we had lying around."

In a joint statement released last night, Benioff and Weiss admitted that publicizing this fact was a bad idea. "We use a lot of prosthetic body parts on the show: heads, arms, et cetera," they wrote. "We can’t afford to have these all made from scratch, especially in scenes where we need a lot of them, so we rent them in bulk. After the scene was already shot, someone pointed out that one of the heads looked like George W. Bush. In the DVD commentary, we mentioned this, though we should not have. We meant no disrespect to the former President and apologize if anything we said or did suggested otherwise."] emphasis 'cause thought it funny

Starvation in West Africa

Ironic and disgusting how we debase our language through illiteracy, metaphors, euphemisms, and by choosing words which conceal the plain truth whereof we seek to speak: "collateral damage" for innocent victims or "food shortage" for famine of epic proportions.

Millions of people face risk of starvation in West Africa, a slow moving disaster of biblical proportions out of sight of the 24 hour news cycle of the maw of the intertubes beast.

906 people viewed post below on lynching from link at Field Negro.  Every single one could give $10--or $5 as this ant in his empire of dirt does between taxi rides and Dr. deductibles--and $900000 would save many lives.

For the sake of whatever God, or Goddess, or atheism, in which you believe, give.

[Aid organizations need donations to fight food shortages in West Africa
By Maria Pia Negro
Catholic News Service

WASHINGTON (CNS) -- Millions of people in West Africa's Sahel region face severe food shortages that could be catastrophic if international aid falls short in the coming weeks, according to representatives of Catholic and other humanitarian organizations.

"The crisis is already here. People are already starving in some parts of the region," said Bill Worms, Sahel communications officer for Caritas Internationalis in Rome.

U.N. agencies estimate that 18 million people, including 3 million children, are at risk of hunger in parts of Chad, Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Gambia, Mauritania, Cameroon and northern Nigeria.

Organizations like Caritas Internationalis, the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development and Catholic Relief Services are working to solve problems of hunger and malnutrition. Even with the humanitarian response, there still is not enough money to address the overwhelming need, said Bill Rastetter, CRS country representative for Niger.

As the food crisis in the region grows, food prices skyrocket in urban centers, making it almost impossible to get enough food in the Sahel, the area bordering the Sahara Desert. In March, families started rationing food to survive.] emphasis added as love me some capitalism as people starve

The Nightwatchman: "When you're living under a bridge, man, all roads lead to home."

Mayor Nutter of the City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia, wants to make life easier for homeless people by outlawing feeding them.

Yes, and "Ignorance is Knowledge."

Makes me feel wonderful my Orlando, the City Mean, led the way.

[A growing number of cities across the United States are making it harder for the homeless.

Philadelphia recently banned outdoor feeding of people in city parks. Denver has begun enforcing a ban on eating and sleeping on property without permission. And this month, lawmakers in Ashland, Ore., will consider strengthening the town's ban on camping and making noise in public.

And the list goes on: Atlanta, Los Angeles, Miami,Oklahoma City, Phoenix, San Diego and more than 50 other cities have previously adopted some kind of anti-camping or anti-food-sharing laws, according to the National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty.

The ordinances are pitting city officials against advocates for the homeless. City leaders such as Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter say they want to improve the lives of homeless people and ensure public safety, while opponents of such laws argue that such regulations criminalize homelessness and make it harder to live on the streets.

"We're seeing these types of laws being proposed and passed all over the country," said Heather Johnson, an attorney at the homeless and poverty law center, which opposes many of the measures. "We think that criminalization measures such as these are counterproductive. Rather than address the root cause of homelessness, they perpetuate homelessness."]
