Media Memes, Lying Liars, and Hucksters Who Profit

Definition of "meme" points out these ideas get reinforced by repetition, so news outlets come up with a talking point, repeat it endlessly, and then use election results--even one where the only votes that counted came from five United States Supreme court justices--to justify creating these "meme" things and using them to sell commercials and ad space.

One meme which frankly still perplexes me remains which candidate would people rather have a beer with.

What the hell does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

Sure, I'd even have a beer with ex figurehead president Jr. Bush--but not the leprous souled ex president Cheney, not even if Dick bought the rounds and tequila shooters--but when it comes to leading the "free" world and trying to protect America from all enemies, foreign and domestic. we ought to ask whom we would not play poker with.because the bastard will bluff, smile, stab, and calculate odds to .01% to make sure he leaves the table a winner.

So when President Obama went to the White House Correspondents Dinner and calmly told jokes, betraying no hint of tension over a possibly career ending decision to get bin Laden, he had to have some sort of qualms, like just bet the rent and food money and Michelle will kill me if I lose yet he showed not so much as a drop of sweat.

So too his laid back debate performance comes as both his calm nature and by plan because the media meme had to have the Mittbot "winning"  to keep the horse race interesting so they could keep selling product.

Also with Willard's penchant for lying--or call it absolute inability to see much less say any truth inconvenient to his winning more power--Mr. Obama could lay back and let the fact checkers do his work for him, a rhetorical rope a dope if you will, staying presidential and respectful while allowing Mittens to hoist himself on his own petard.

So, Mr. President, come on down to the Fillin' Station, and I'll buy you a beer.

But damn sure ain't playing poker with you.

WTF Has Obama Done?

Dogs Against Romney

[We like to have some fun here at Dogs Against Romney, but our message is serious. Mitt Romney strapped his family pet to the roof of his car for a 12-hour drive while his luggage rode inside. Worse, when the dog became sick, Romney justhosed him down and left him up there for hours more.]

Willard Versus Facts

Suppose his inability to do basic arithmetic ought not surprise me as his "work" experience went thus: borrow millions to buy a company by bankrupting it with debt, make millions in management fees, sell the business before it craters, and walk away from the ruins whistling on his way to the bank.

[— One of the biggest disputes was over tax cuts. Obama argued that Romney's plan to stimulate the economy includes a tax cut totaling $5 trillion that, Obama said, isn't possible because the Republican nominee is also promising to spend money in other places.

Romney flatly disputed that number. "First of all, I don't have a $5 trillion tax cut," he said.

Who's right? The Washington Post's Fact Checker says the facts on this one are on Obama's side. The New York Times notes that Romney "has proposed cutting all marginal tax rates by 20 percent — which would in and of itself cut tax revenue by $5 trillion."

FactCheck.org has weighed in too, tweeting during the debatethat "Romney says he will pay for $5T tax cut without raising deficit or raising taxes on middle class. Experts say that's not possible."]

Shorter, simpler Romney debate argument.  Anything on HBO tonight?

Rectally Administered Martinis: What do you do with the olives?

Only at the University of Tennessee.

[The University of Tennessee is investigating allegations that fraternity members took alcohol enemas, leading one student to be hospitalized, and a national fraternity has suspended its chapter in Knoxville.

The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/Pndf7d) reports the practice came to light Saturday when a student was brought to a local hospital with alcohol poisoning. Police said his blood alcohol was measured at above 0.40, a level that can be fatal.

After questioning the young people who brought him to the emergency room, officers determined that he had consumed the alcohol rectally, Knoxville police said Monday. Authorities said the technique is supposed to enhance the effects of alcohol.]

Steve Carell Might Punch You

Sometimes Strikeout a Victory

[MIAMI — The roaring crowd rose as one when Adam Greenberg walked to the plate for the first time in seven years, and Marlins teammates leaning over the dugout railing joined the applause.

Three strikes later, they were cheering still. Greenberg's second chance in the major leagues went a lot better than the first one, even though he struck out.

"It was magical," he said. "The energy in the stadium was something I never experienced, and I don't know if I will ever experience it again. You could just feel the genuine support. It was awesome."

Beaned by the first pitch he saw in the majors in 2005, Greenberg made a comeback Tuesday night and fanned on three pitches as a pinch-hitter for Miami. The Marlins won 4-3 in 11 innings.

Greenberg signed a one-day contract before the game and led off the sixth inning against New York Mets 20-game winner R.A. Dickey, who threw him three consecutive knuckleballs. Greenberg took the first for a strike, then swung at the next two and missed.

The game was Greenberg's first since his major league debut with the Chicago Cubs in 2005, when he was hit in the back of the head by the first pitch he saw – a 92 mph fastball that derailed his career.]

Florida, Sucking on the Teat of Federal Spending

[The Sunshine State is Uncle Sam's favorite.

Florida receives more federal funds than any other state, both in total dollars and on a per capita basis. In fact, based on total volume, Florida's take is 50 percent higher than No. 2 Texas.

According to an analysis by CNBC.com, Florida received $577.8 billion in the 2011 fiscal year, or a whopping $30,318 per capita. Rounding out the top five in per-capita payouts were Louisiana, South Carolina, Hawaii and Virginia.

The analysis included federal money used for government operations — distributed both to government agencies and contractors — as well as money for entitlement programs like Social Security, unemployment compensation and food stamps.]

Danielle Sampson, Why the Affordable Care Act Matters

While a branch of the local hospital in this story provided excellent care for me on my United Health Care Medicare Advantage Plan, even the most altruistic health care provider must draw a line between taking care of people with acute conditions and those like myself who have chronic medical issues.

Use of the term "chronic medical issues" obscures the sad fact that in the most prosperous nation on earth a young lady caught in a crossfire resulting in a coma can easily exhaust insurance benefits in a few weeks, and families face ruinous medical expenses uncovered by any of those socialist government handouts to the 47% who, in Willard's World, refuse to take care of themselves, damn leeches on society.

If you can give without going hungry, give: http://www.gofundme.com/SupportDanielle

[ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. —

The family of 15-year-old Danielle Sampson, who was shot in the head, will soon care for her at home once she is released from the hospital.

The Orange County teenager was caught in the crossfire of a shooting in July and has been in a coma ever since....

Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital said it can't talk about specifics of the case because of privacy laws but it released a statement, saying they do their best to work with families through these tough transitions....

The family said it has a long, hard road ahead, as family members soon will be forced to care for their daughter at their small home.

Right now, the family is trying to figure out how they're going to pay for the special care Danielle needs....

On Tuesday, Danielle's family opened its home to WFTV, showing reasons why bringing their daughter home will be a challenge. Their air conditioner is broken, and her wheelchair and hospital bed won't fit through the doorways.

Danielle's parents said insurance money has run out, and they've both stopped working to stay by their daughter's side.

Danielle will soon be transferred to a rehabilitation facility where her mother will undergo a two-week training session on how to care for her. The plan after that is for the family to return home, which has community leaders scrambling.]

What does wondrous Willard say about health care in America? Go to the Emergency Room; you'll get care there.

Dipwad.

Hate to Leave the Hospital Again but am Healthier Now

Kind of sucks: home alone again, un-surrounded by nubile female nurses and caring attendants who laughed at my jokes and took excellent care of me. Found myself watching Springer today with first segment on costume play couple role playing "My Little Pony," innocent but weird. Next bit had segment with female angry her boyfriend went back on promise to give up guys, his words,"but we didn't say anything about trannies,' and of course boyfriend dating tranny named London also found even more flamboyant trann at White Castle, brouhaha ensues.

Even more bizarre watching ESPN resident paranoid schizophrenic with delusions of grandeur, Skip Bayliss. lose whatever left of his sanity, saying on Monday Phil Mickelson made him "feel sick to be an American" during Ryder Cup by applauding winners. Apparently, Lefty ought to have pulled an international object from his wrestling tights and clocked McElroy.

Today, he went full on berserker on Tony Romo for throwing to Dez Bryant for hot read on blitz in Monday Night Football Dallas vs Chicago game, "You can't throw it to that knucklehead!" After long and patient explanation from former NFL coach Eric Mangini explaining the coverage--used for years by Lovie Smith's defenses--Skip defended his insight by mentioning all the time he spent with legendary coaches Don Shula and Tom Landry.

Pressed further, he responded with customary humility, "At least I didn't get fired twice as NFL coach."

How long must I cry out to thee Bayliss and Thou will not answer, Lord? (It's in Habakkuk)

All to say my arrogance also borders on absurd, but do own it and find myself funnier than Skip.

Hmmm, maybe this explains things somewhat: [Although he was born John Edward Bayless II in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, his father immediately began calling him Skip or Skipper. The name stuck, and Skip Bayless was never called John by his parents. He eventually had his name legally changed to Skip. He is also the older brother of chef, restaurateur and TV personality Rick Bayless.]

All told, found springer's guest more sane than Skip, but mos' def' time to get home to Paladin and Have Gun Will Travel on Encore Western channel.

Don't Pay the Ransom; I Escaped

Edited for clarity on 2 October:

And Willard Mittens Romney, explain to me how someone who has survived and sometimes thrived for 34 years after a broken neck and who now walks but has to play wheel of Dr's appts--urologist, nephrologist, neurologist, gastroenterolgist and a primary who won't even do as much as write an antibiotics 'script' when i urinate milk due to a UTI unless i add the cab ride to and fro from his office, his $20 copay, plus $20 copay and more taxi fares to get lab tests to get what I already know I need--can afford all that on less than a grand a month in disability.

PS;  Wonder if i can get a cheap flight to Costa Rica where socialized medicine can give me the care needed.

PPS:  Screw that, too far from my nieces and sis' who still talks to me.  Fidel, can I get me some care in Cuba?

From the Pen of a Kid: Romney, go back to MA

That's the fact, Jack! If a 12 year old can figure this fool out, why can't Republican'ts?

Jackson Ripley, age 12:
[Dear Governor Romney,

I’d like to say congratulations on winning the republican nomination. But, I wish you stayed in Massachusetts. You’re plan for America isn’t what we need, and would hurt us more than it would help.

First, repealing Obama care and other health plans he’s put in place have helped families across America, including mine. I live in a middle class family, and two years ago my little sister; Kennedy was denied insurance because of her pre-existing condition. This was a huge emotional stress and financial burden on my entire family. Under Obama Care, insurance companies can no longer deny Kennedy and kids like her, the coverage they need and deserve. Because of Obama care my little sister was able to have the several surgeries she needed that helped save her life. Once the President was elected he put Obama Care into action, just like he promised and made it so that you could get insurance with pre-existing conditions. This has made a direct impact on my family. My family is with out a doubt better off now, than we were four years ago!

It is to my understanding that you stated that you were going to repeal Obama Care, including the part I have mentioned, which will take away the insurance we have and need for my sister Kennedy. Why do you think she doesn’t deserve health care? Also, when you were interviewed on “Meet the Press”, you stated that you would NOT repeal this part of Obama Care, but then your campaign backpedalled and on the “Tonight show with Jay Leno”, you said that you WOULD repeal this.

Also, you’re domestic plans (birth control, gay rights etc.) are horrible! Women should get to manage their own health, and if you wonder why you’re not appealing to many women voters, rethink your birth control and women’s’ rights plans. And people should be able to marry whom they want. We built this country so people could have freedom, and not have religious beliefs control them to that length. This country was in no way built on any religion, so we should not create laws that repress the American people in a religious way and hurt our most vulnerable.

Sincerely,
Jackson Ripley, age 12] my emphasis
