"One in four lap dancers has a degree, study finds"
[The first academic research project into lap dancing has found that, rather than being uneducated young women who have been coerced into the industry, one in four dancers has a degree and has been attracted by the money.
Dancers took home an average of £232 a shift after paying commission and fees to the club, with most working between two and four shifts a week – giving them annual incomes of between £24,000 and £48,000 a year.
The researchers found no evidence of trafficking in the industry, and concluded that career and economic choices were motivations for dancing rather than drug use or coercion.
Aspiring actresses, models and artists used exotic dancing as a career strategy which fitted alongside their other work, training or studies.

An icon from St. Catherine’s monastery on Mount Sinai illustrates this point. It shows two robed Christian saints getting married. Their pronubus (official witness, or “best man”) is none other than Jesus Christ.
It is a standard Roman portrayal of a wedding. WTF with Denver?: "When he [Booker] spoke, crowds of tourists gathered."

But deputies at the new Denver jail told him to stop. When Booker, who was being processed on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, didn't obey, he was held down, hit with electric shocks and then placed facedown in a holding cell, according to two inmates who watched it unfold...
The deputy yelled at him repeatedly to stop, got up and followed Booker. Booker turned and repeated that he was getting his shoes, Maten said.
The deputy grabbed Booker by the arm and put a lock on him, Yedo said. Booker, who was 5 feet 5 and weighed 175 pounds, pushed her away. At that point, four other deputies wrestled Booker to the concrete floor. They slid down two steps to the floor in the sitting area. Yedo said the deputies each grabbed a limb while he struggled.
" 'Get the Taser. Get the Taser,' " Yedo quoted one of the deputies as saying.
Yedo said he was only about 3 feet away, and Maten said he was close enough that if he stood and took one step, he could reach out and touch one of the deputies...
A fifth deputy put Booker in a headlock just as the female deputy began shocking him with a Taser with encouragement from one of the deputies, who kept repeating, "Probe his ---," Maten said. He could hear the Taser crackle repeatedly.
Booker said, "'I can't breath . . .," Yedo heard. Then, Booker went limp.
Booker's wrists were handcuffed behind his back in an awkward position when the deputies picked him up, each holding an arm or a leg, and carried him stomach-down to a holding cell with an unbreakable glass door.
They set him down on his stomach, with much of his weight on one shoulder and his legs bent, Yedo said
They took the handcuffs off and without checking his pulse, the officers left him on the floor of the holding cell.
The deputies walked away high-fiving and laughing, Maten said. Several inmates were saying, " 'I can't believe they're doing this,' " Maten said.

He says that what drives him are the memories of the sounds that came over the cell phone his son held that night.

Muslims vs. Christians: A Morality Story
Having done business with both Muslims and self-professed Christians, allow my generalizing from personal experience.
A Muslim will not lie to you before, during, and after a transaction.
If you ever chance upon a Christian back yard mechanic or politician in campaign season, put your hand on your wallet and run.
Scam artists flock to Christian churches. While having perfect faith in the imperfectability of Mankind and thus sure mosques have frauds too, on the balance I'd trust Muslims more than Christians.
The former mayhap fear Allah more than latter fear "God the Father" and the PEACEFUL followers of the Qu'ran seem more apt to reckon the cost of their actions to others while "Christians" blithely forgive themselves while blindly sinning.
Oh for some sighted sinners with humans admitting to themselves they do wrong as they defraud, swindle, and plunder in pursuit of profit rather than this sad parade of pinstriped pirates professing piety before prosecution!
Ever'body gots to watch out for ever'body, because sometimes Satan comes as a Man Of Peace

Words matter.
Words consumed uncritically can cause tragic consequences by amplifying hate, aggravating bigotry, and convincing individuals other humans somehow less or sub human.
So when the St Petersburg Times publishes a story with the line about panhandling, "which was part of the homeless problem that Mayor Bill Foster has been fighting since taking office," (17 August '10, emphasis added), the phrase dehumanizes an entire class of disadvantaged people.
Defining humans as among "the homeless" or part of "the homeless problem" can lead some unbalanced people to come with their own final solution and otherwise sane city councils to unconstitutionally restrict the 1st amendment right to free speech and ban feeding the hungry.
With the current Great Recession, more will become homeless. Instead of criminalizing consequences of homelessness which carries costs of criminal courts and incarceration, surely the time has come to provide transitional living situations--dorms if necessary--and provide education and training for jobs.
As for jobs with the United States infrastructure of roads, and bridges, and watern pipes and whatnot crumbling, WE need a new Civilian Conservation Corps to rebuild our country---or at least Halliburton and Kellogg Brown Root could give the country a break on the work after untold trillions of $$$ they made from rebuilding Iraq.
Give people the dignity due them as human and jobs will follow. Feeding the hungry might fulfill the last commandment, "In as much as you have it done it for the least of my brethern, you have done it for me," Jesus.

Of course since RepubliKKKans want to eviscerate the 1st amendment, rewrite the 14th in to deprive some born in US of US citizenship, and even repeal the 17th amendment which gave citizens the right to vote for US Senate elections, I'm freakin' sharpening my pitchfork and making my torch for use if someone tries to deprive my nieces of the right to vote.

[Researchers in the U.K. are working on a robot that will develop emotions as it interacts with people.
Scientists at the University of Hertfordshire announced this week that they have finalized a prototype of a robot capable of learning how to express emotions. According to the university, the robot is designed to form attachments, interact with people and show emotions through bodily expressions.
So far, the robot's range of emotions include happiness, sadness, fear, excitement and pride.
"This behavior is modeled on what a young child does," said Lola Cañamero, lead researcher on the project. "This is also very similar to the way chimpanzees and other nonhuman primates develop effective bonds with their caregivers."

Great Founding Fathers' ghosts, the duly elected President of the United States, sworn to uphold the US Constitution, defends the right of American citizens to practice their religion under the 1st Amendment, and almost overnight, it becomes a "nation-wide controversy."

WINTER GARDEN — Nearly 1,000 people filled a high school auditorium Thursday night for the final debate between the seven Republicans vying to replace U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson.
The debate was sponsored by the West Orlando Tea Party, and took on an atmosphere that was pro-tea party and decidedly anti-Grayson and anti-Democrat...
An opening prayer asked the Lord's forgiveness for runaway government spending, abortion and attempts to limit gun rights.
Moderator Bud Hedinger, a talk radio host on 540 AM (WFLA), drew a standing ovation with the decree: "Alan Grayson has got to go."
There was little real debate among the candidates: Ross Bieling of Sanford, owner of a medical manufacturing company; Dan Fanelli of Windermere, a retired airline pilot; state Rep. Kurt Kelly of Ocala; Winter Park attorney Todd Long; Bruce O'Donoghue of Winter Park, who owns a traffic equipment business; Eustis stay-at-home mom and tea party activist Patricia Sullivan; and former state senator Dan Webster of Orlando.
All seven share many of the same political views and were complimentary toward one another.
Kelly summed up the crowd's mood: "We're coming forward to say we've had enough. We've been taxed enough already, but it's not just fiscal. We need to bring our nation back to a moral principle and put godly people in office who will say what they mean and mean what they say."
The winner of the Aug. 24 primary will face Grayson, Florida Tea Party candidate Peg Dunmire and George Metcalfe, an independent.
Hedinger stuck to the issues most important to voters in the GOP primary, including jobs, the economy, and repealing health-care reform.

TAMPA — A state law that makes it a crime to sell smoking devices such as pipes and bongs at most head shops takes effect Thursday.
And that has some of the shop owners fuming.
So much so that specialty retail stores across the state have filed a lawsuit in Hillsborough County to stop the law, calling it unconstitutional.
The law "singles out a specific type of retail business, and criminalizes the owners," the lawsuit filed on June 18 said.
Beginning Thursday, stores may sell bongs and pipes only if they have a state license to sell tobacco and derive 75 percent of their annual revenue from tobacco products, or no more than 25 percent from the smoking devices.
According to the law, smoking devices include any metal, wooden, acrylic, glass, stone, plastic or ceramic smoking pipes, water pipes or bongs

For Rep. Darryl Rouson, the St. Petersburg Democrat who sponsored the so-called bong bill, the law reveals the truth behind a charade going on for years.
"Everyone knows what's being smoked out of these pipes; the only ones who claim they don't know are the sellers of these pipes," he said. "The law just tries to chip away at what we know is a facade."
The lawsuit, filed against the state by businesses including G-Spot III in Tampa and Mellow Mood in Pinellas Park, also says the law is problematic in its approach to determining which businesses can legally sell the smoking devices in such a short time frame.
The law "cannot be validly enforced because there is no provision for any method to determine" the percentage of sales or the annual revenue made through the sales of tobacco products or smoking devices, the lawsuit said.
The lawsuit suggests an effective date of July 1, 2011, instead.
An attorney for the businesses could not be reached Monday.

Good Golly Miss Dolly; Centenarian Dances W/ Four Scantily Clad Polynesian Dancers
[For Dolly Griffin's birthday, four scantily clad Polynesian dancers gyrated their hips, wowing the dining room crowd with their hula-style moves.
The Monday afternoon party was, for the centenarian, one of the best birthday presents she could ask for -- and she's hoping for many more.

[A Florida church called the Dove World Outreach Center, in keeping with its pledge to "stand up for righteousness," is hosting "International Burn a Koran Day" on September 11. But only after the "No Homo Mayor" protest next month.
Pastor Terry Jones is a man of his word. He will stand up for his beliefs and preach the word of God from his pulpit at the Dove World Outreach Center, non-believers be damned. "International Burn a Koran Day" is simply a manifestation of Jones's love for the Lord Jesus Christ, and his quest to crush evildoers around the world:
Apostolic worship which is a conscious, deliberate effort during worship to change the spiritual world, that then works its way out into the natural world and becomes visible as victory over the enemy.

Cubs "Fans" as Jews of Sports World
Having once again had the vile and baseless assertion of my being a Cubs fan thrown in my face by the inestimable Mr. Field Negro --a freakin' Phillies fan for Farook's sake--I must once again don my proud visage and sad armor of denial and write, "Wait 'til next year."
No living human being with a shred of sanity can root for a team that loses for 200 years. The only folk with longer losings streaks: Jews and the Irish.
As for the latter, they perhaps posit another 500 years will drive the English from the land of Eire but do so without hope other than in their cups.
The former still await their Messiah without any reason save those given in their Testament and Talmud.
Cubs fans have no such illusions, holy books, nor any shred of hope, rational or religious.
We have an incurable disease, hereditary and probably regressive since my "Cubs" gene comes from my maternal grandfather and father.
We suffer ignominious defeat season after season, year upon year, decade after damned decade.
How long, O LORD, will I call for a pennant,
And You will not hear?
I cry out to You, “Go Cubbies!”
Yet You do not notch a save.
So Field, if you call me a Cubs fan in print again, I will fall upon you like the Righteous Wrath of the Lord with the mighty name of Royko, with a million lawyer minions, injunctions, imprecations and curses on your manhood.
Have a nice day.
