Candace and her children
For my Republican acquaintance, Clairista, more of "them" looking for handouts. Wonder if they be Muslim. 3 of the kids look a trifle swarthy.
"The [Paradigms] They are a Changing"
Mayhaps the new digital media has benefits including giving artists ability to market their own works without bloodsucking media conglomerates taking their pounds of flesh.
This song (NSFW) contains an obscenity in the title and chorus. Although eschewing curse words as nieces might possibly read this--about as likely as sun rising in the west but still technically possible--it speaks to loss of love and heartbreak and love the chorus, "F*** You, OOO OOO, OOO."
Of course, author of the song has a major record label contract, and the internet cursed the world with Justin Frackin' Bieber, but the possibility of change does remain.
Well, except for that whole, "There is nothing new under the sun," thing.

"Your Flag Decal Won't Get You Into Heaven Anymore:" John Prine
Chorus:
[But your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven any more.
They're already overcrowded
From your dirty little war.
Now Jesus don't like killin'
No matter what the reason's for,
And your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven any more.]

"One in four lap dancers has a degree, study finds"
[The first academic research project into lap dancing has found that, rather than being uneducated young women who have been coerced into the industry, one in four dancers has a degree and has been attracted by the money.
Dancers took home an average of £232 a shift after paying commission and fees to the club, with most working between two and four shifts a week – giving them annual incomes of between £24,000 and £48,000 a year.
The researchers found no evidence of trafficking in the industry, and concluded that career and economic choices were motivations for dancing rather than drug use or coercion.
Aspiring actresses, models and artists used exotic dancing as a career strategy which fitted alongside their other work, training or studies.
Unemployed new graduates – mainly with arts degrees – were also dancing because they could not find graduate jobs and found that lap dancing paid much better than bar work.]

"Humanity needs its exuberant diversity but humans shrink from it."
Who knew early Christians may have not condemned same sex unions?
[Through much of history, especially prior to the Fourteenth Century, many Christians did not share the view that marriage was a reward for being heterosexual, nor that a same-sex union was objectionable.
An icon from St. Catherine’s monastery on Mount Sinai illustrates this point. It shows two robed Christian saints getting married. Their pronubus (official witness, or “best man”) is none other than Jesus Christ.
It is a standard Roman portrayal of a wedding. The difference: the two saints are both male, Fourth Century Christian martyrs, Saint Serge and Saint Bacchus, close friends in the Roman army who were purportedly singled out for their secret adherence to Christianity before being tortured and killed...
"As theologian William Sloane Coffin said: “Diversity may be the hardest thing for a society to live with — and perhaps the most dangerous thing to live without.”]

"Worldly ambition inhibits true learning"

Worldly ambition inhibits true learning. Ask me. I know. A young man in a hurry is nearly ineducable: He knows what he wants and where he’s headed; when it comes to looking back or entertaining heretical thoughts, he has neither the time nor the inclination. All that counts is that he is going somewhere. Only as ambition wanes does education become a possibility.
My own education did not commence until I had reached middle age. I can fix its start date with precision: for me, education began in Berlin, on a winter’s evening, at the Brandenburg Gate, not long after the Berlin Wall had fallen...
Now, I started, however hesitantly, to suspect that orthodoxy might be a sham. I began to appreciate that authentic truth is never simple and that any version of truth handed down from on high -- whether by presidents, prime ministers, or archbishops -- is inherently suspect. For Clarista, a nice Republican sister met at the pub after primary day.
Do not consider her a RepbliKKKan such as other idjuts in the circular firing squad the Republican party has become, because she conversed in a reasonable way.

WTF with Denver?: "When he [Booker] spoke, crowds of tourists gathered."
[Inmates say they witnessed man's death when jailers restrained, shocked him repeatedly
Marvin Booker just wanted to get his shoes....
But deputies at the new Denver jail told him to stop. When Booker, who was being processed on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, didn't obey, he was held down, hit with electric shocks and then placed facedown in a holding cell, according to two inmates who watched it unfold...
The deputy yelled at him repeatedly to stop, got up and followed Booker. Booker turned and repeated that he was getting his shoes, Maten said.
The deputy grabbed Booker by the arm and put a lock on him, Yedo said. Booker, who was 5 feet 5 and weighed 175 pounds, pushed her away. At that point, four other deputies wrestled Booker to the concrete floor. They slid down two steps to the floor in the sitting area. Yedo said the deputies each grabbed a limb while he struggled.
" 'Get the Taser. Get the Taser,' " Yedo quoted one of the deputies as saying.
Yedo said he was only about 3 feet away, and Maten said he was close enough that if he stood and took one step, he could reach out and touch one of the deputies...
A fifth deputy put Booker in a headlock just as the female deputy began shocking him with a Taser with encouragement from one of the deputies, who kept repeating, "Probe his ---," Maten said. He could hear the Taser crackle repeatedly.
Booker said, "'I can't breath . . .," Yedo heard. Then, Booker went limp.
Booker's wrists were handcuffed behind his back in an awkward position when the deputies picked him up, each holding an arm or a leg, and carried him stomach-down to a holding cell with an unbreakable glass door.
They set him down on his stomach, with much of his weight on one shoulder and his legs bent, Yedo said
They took the handcuffs off and without checking his pulse, the officers left him on the floor of the holding cell.
The deputies walked away high-fiving and laughing, Maten said. Several inmates were saying, " 'I can't believe they're doing this,' " Maten said.
Yedo said he stared at Booker, watching his chest, which wasn't moving. One deputy had stayed next to the cell and was also staring at Booker.
"I told the guy, 'Hey, that guy is not breathing,' " Yedo said.]
[Son's beating by Denver police stuns Pueblo sheriff's deputy
For 22 years, Anthony DeHerrera wore his law-enforcement uniform with pride.
The last thing the Pueblo sheriff's deputy ever thought he would have to do is spend a year and a half seeking justice on behalf of his son who was beaten by Denver Police officers.
He wants them to pay for what the videotape of their actions shows.
"If they were Joe Q citizens, they would be in jail," he says.
He says that what drives him are the memories of the sounds that came over the cell phone his son held that night.
The thuds. The sirens.
The words he heard in the background: "They're recording us. We've got to get rid of the phone."
And then the silence as the phone line connecting father to son went dead....]

[Another case of alleged excessive force by Denver police officers has surfaced in the wake of a similar complaint that has received national attention.
Mark Ashford, 32, was beaten by two officers and transported from the scene by ambulance after having stopped to talk to a motorist pulled over by one of the officers, said Will Hart, Ashford's attorney.
The March 16 incident is under review by Richard Rosenthal, an independent monitor for the city of Denver who investigates allegations of police wrongdoing.]

Muslims vs. Christians: A Morality Story
Having done business with both Muslims and self-professed Christians, allow my generalizing from personal experience.
A Muslim will not lie to you before, during, and after a transaction.
If you ever chance upon a Christian back yard mechanic or politician in campaign season, put your hand on your wallet and run.
Scam artists flock to Christian churches. While having perfect faith in the imperfectability of Mankind and thus sure mosques have frauds too, on the balance I'd trust Muslims more than Christians.
The former mayhap fear Allah more than latter fear "God the Father" and the PEACEFUL followers of the Qu'ran seem more apt to reckon the cost of their actions to others while "Christians" blithely forgive themselves while blindly sinning.
Oh for some sighted sinners with humans admitting to themselves they do wrong as they defraud, swindle, and plunder in pursuit of profit rather than this sad parade of pinstriped pirates professing piety before prosecution!
Ever'body gots to watch out for ever'body, because sometimes Satan comes as a Man Of Peace.
(Didja notice how previous sentence carries some amibiguity? You have to look out for people trying to rob you and look out for people getting robbed or otherwise need help. It might be part of that do unto others thing.)

"The Homeless Problem:" Letter to St Petersburg Times
Words matter.
Words consumed uncritically can cause tragic consequences by amplifying hate, aggravating bigotry, and convincing individuals other humans somehow less or sub human.
So when the St Petersburg Times publishes a story with the line about panhandling, "which was part of the homeless problem that Mayor Bill Foster has been fighting since taking office," (17 August '10, emphasis added), the phrase dehumanizes an entire class of disadvantaged people.
Defining humans as among "the homeless" or part of "the homeless problem" can lead some unbalanced people to come with their own final solution and otherwise sane city councils to unconstitutionally restrict the 1st amendment right to free speech and ban feeding the hungry.
With the current Great Recession, more will become homeless. Instead of criminalizing consequences of homelessness which carries costs of criminal courts and incarceration, surely the time has come to provide transitional living situations--dorms if necessary--and provide education and training for jobs.
As for jobs with the United States infrastructure of roads, and bridges, and watern pipes and whatnot crumbling, WE need a new Civilian Conservation Corps to rebuild our country---or at least Halliburton and Kellogg Brown Root could give the country a break on the work after untold trillions of $$$ they made from rebuilding Iraq.
Give people the dignity due them as human and jobs will follow. Feeding the hungry might fulfill the last commandment, "In as much as you have it done it for the least of my brethern, you have done it for me," Jesus.
So demeaning or demonizing humans by defining them as part of some group or problem will not improve our commonweal, and I expected better from a fine paper like the St. Petersburg Times.

A Crime: "Annoying a Person of the Opposite Sex"?
Well, count me a criminal. As a straight but un-narrow male, my annoying has more focus on the fairer sex.
If truth were told, most male acquaintances would say I annoy them too, but that just stems from my my great charm and perhaps cynical wit although I consider my Grave Dancers Tour--dancing on the graves of Nixon, Reagan, and ex President Cheney, assuming latter ever dies, not in a mean but Masters of War way--entirely reasonable given recent history.
Masters Of War
Nevertheless, my more focused efforts come with chatting up the distaff side of the race, not at length, no need for restraining order, still young enough to hope for love but old enough to distrust it.

Happy Women' Suffrage Day; 19th Amendment ratified 18 August 1920.
Of course since RepubliKKKans want to eviscerate the 1st amendment, rewrite the 14th in to deprive some born in US of US citizenship, and even repeal the 17th amendment which gave citizens the right to vote for US Senate elections, I'm freakin' sharpening my pitchfork and making my torch for use if someone tries to deprive my nieces of the right to vote.
How did things get to this point in MY United States of America?
Rampant Raygunzism amounts to 1 damn thing, but people who said this crap used to do so from "secure" living facilities and would have gotten laughed out of town proposing this crappola while running for elected office. thanks internets (Link NSFW but Jay and Bob Strike Back strikes me as hilarious), now any loony can limn online.

Football Team Night Practice to Accommodate Muslims
When will wingnut outrage commence?
[DEARBORN, Mich. -- A Michigan high school football team is holding preseason practices in the middle of the night to help its Muslim players practice both faith and football.
The predominantly Muslim squad from Dearborn says the nocturnal regimen is a way for players to eat and drink while observing the holy month of daytime fasting known as Ramadan that started last week.
The August heat also played a factor in Fordson High coach Fouad Zaban's proposal to reverse the clock for a week of two-a-day practices.
Cutting practice wasn't an option at football-crazy Fordson, which is coming off a one-loss season and has won four state titles and three runner-up seasons since it was established in 1928.
But nobody wanted to lessen the significance of Ramadan in the Detroit suburb widely known as the capital of Arab-America.]

"Scientists build a robot that can learn emotions;" already more human than Pres. Cheney
[Researchers in the U.K. are working on a robot that will develop emotions as it interacts with people.
Scientists at the University of Hertfordshire announced this week that they have finalized a prototype of a robot capable of learning how to express emotions. According to the university, the robot is designed to form attachments, interact with people and show emotions through bodily expressions.
So far, the robot's range of emotions include happiness, sadness, fear, excitement and pride.
"This behavior is modeled on what a young child does," said Lola Cañamero, lead researcher on the project. "This is also very similar to the way chimpanzees and other nonhuman primates develop effective bonds with their caregivers."

US President Defends 1st Amendment; RepubliKKKans Outraged
Great Founding Fathers' ghosts, the duly elected President of the United States, sworn to uphold the US Constitution, defends the right of American citizens to practice their religion under the 1st Amendment, and almost overnight, it becomes a "nation-wide controversy."
[Here's a timeline of how it all happened:
Dec. 8, 2009: The Times publishes a lengthy front-page look at the Cordoba project. "We want to push back against the extremists," Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, the lead organizer, is quoted as saying. Two Jewish leaders and two city officials, including the mayor's office, say they support the idea, as does the mother of a man killed on 9/11. An FBI spokesman says the imam has worked with the bureau. Besides a few third-tier right-wing blogs, including Pamela Geller's Atlas Shrugs site, no one much notices the Times story...
May 6, 2010: After a unanimous vote by a New York City community board committee to approve the project, the AP runs a story. It quotes relatives of 9/11 victims (called by the reporter), who offer differing opinions. The New York Post, meanwhile, runs a story under the inaccurate headline, "Panel Approves 'WTC' Mosque." Geller is less subtle, titling her post that day, "Monster Mosque Pushes Ahead in Shadow of World Trade Center Islamic Death and Destruction." She writes on her Atlas Shrugs blog, "This is Islamic domination and expansionism. The location is no accident. Just as Al-Aqsa was built on top of the Temple in Jerusalem." (To get an idea of where Geller is coming from, she once suggested that Malcolm X was Obama's real father. Seriously...)
•May 13, 2010: {New York Post columnist Andrea} Peyser follows up with an entire column devoted to "Mosque Madness at Ground Zero." This is a significant moment in the development of the "ground zero mosque" narrative: It's the first newspaper article that frames the project as inherently wrong and suspect, in the way that Geller has been framing it for months. Peyser in fact quotes Geller at length and promotes the anti-mosque protest of Stop Islamization of America, which Peyser describes as a "human-rights group." Peyser also reports — falsely — that Cordoba House's opening date will be Sept. 11, 2011.]

Once again, cretins show themselves without any constitutional common sense, shame, decency, or scruples.

"Opening Prayer Asked the Lord's Forgiveness for Runaway Government Spending..."
In great dancing Shiva's name, don't these idiots realize God might have a few more things on His/Her plate than the US budget? Say like floods in Pakistan displacing millions of people, continuing catastrophe in Haiti, global warming and continuing violence of his creations as they murder each other?
Sure if I were invested in the circular firing squad the Republikkkan tea party has become, I'd pray for divine intervention also, albeit not praying for rights of gun owners.

WINTER GARDEN — Nearly 1,000 people filled a high school auditorium Thursday night for the final debate between the seven Republicans vying to replace U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson.
The debate was sponsored by the West Orlando Tea Party, and took on an atmosphere that was pro-tea party and decidedly anti-Grayson and anti-Democrat...
An opening prayer asked the Lord's forgiveness for runaway government spending, abortion and attempts to limit gun rights.
Moderator Bud Hedinger, a talk radio host on 540 AM (WFLA), drew a standing ovation with the decree: "Alan Grayson has got to go."
There was little real debate among the candidates: Ross Bieling of Sanford, owner of a medical manufacturing company; Dan Fanelli of Windermere, a retired airline pilot; state Rep. Kurt Kelly of Ocala; Winter Park attorney Todd Long; Bruce O'Donoghue of Winter Park, who owns a traffic equipment business; Eustis stay-at-home mom and tea party activist Patricia Sullivan; and former state senator Dan Webster of Orlando.
All seven share many of the same political views and were complimentary toward one another.
Kelly summed up the crowd's mood: "We're coming forward to say we've had enough. We've been taxed enough already, but it's not just fiscal. We need to bring our nation back to a moral principle and put godly people in office who will say what they mean and mean what they say."
The winner of the Aug. 24 primary will face Grayson, Florida Tea Party candidate Peg Dunmire and George Metcalfe, an independent.
Hedinger stuck to the issues most important to voters in the GOP primary, including jobs, the economy, and repealing health-care reform.

Sex and the Virgin Candidate
53-year-old virgin seeks school board chairman post
John Mark Coney broke the news about his sex life (or lack thereof) at a recent candidates' forum in Orlando
May 19, 2010
A candidate for Orange County School Board chairman left a memorable first impression at a recent candidates' forum by reading from the Bible, recommending that President Obama withdraw his Supreme Court nominee and breaking the news that he's a virgin – a 53-year-old virgin.
The remarks from candidate John Mark Coney came at a recent Tiger Bay forum hosted by Orlando Sentinel Editorial Page Editor Mike Lafferty. You can listen to Coney on Erika Hobbs' post on the Sentinel School Zone blog by clicking here.

FL Fights Bongs and Crack Pipes
Thought United States had won the war on drugs. So why did the state of FL criminalize sale of tobacco accessories?
Darryl Rouson's war on bongs and crack pipes
[State Rep. Darryl Rouson, D-St. Petersburg, is a former drug addict. He's not ashamed to say that.
So when he showed up to the Capitol yesterday with a construction hat adorned with a bong and smoking pipes, he was trying to call attention to a long-running crusade. His attempt to increase taxes on sales of drug paraphanelia failed this year, but said he'll keep trying...]

TAMPA — A state law that makes it a crime to sell smoking devices such as pipes and bongs at most head shops takes effect Thursday.
And that has some of the shop owners fuming.
So much so that specialty retail stores across the state have filed a lawsuit in Hillsborough County to stop the law, calling it unconstitutional.
The law "singles out a specific type of retail business, and criminalizes the owners," the lawsuit filed on June 18 said.
Beginning Thursday, stores may sell bongs and pipes only if they have a state license to sell tobacco and derive 75 percent of their annual revenue from tobacco products, or no more than 25 percent from the smoking devices.
According to the law, smoking devices include any metal, wooden, acrylic, glass, stone, plastic or ceramic smoking pipes, water pipes or bongs
.
For Rep. Darryl Rouson, the St. Petersburg Democrat who sponsored the so-called bong bill, the law reveals the truth behind a charade going on for years.
"Everyone knows what's being smoked out of these pipes; the only ones who claim they don't know are the sellers of these pipes," he said. "The law just tries to chip away at what we know is a facade."
The lawsuit, filed against the state by businesses including G-Spot III in Tampa and Mellow Mood in Pinellas Park, also says the law is problematic in its approach to determining which businesses can legally sell the smoking devices in such a short time frame.
The law "cannot be validly enforced because there is no provision for any method to determine" the percentage of sales or the annual revenue made through the sales of tobacco products or smoking devices, the lawsuit said.
The lawsuit suggests an effective date of July 1, 2011, instead.
An attorney for the businesses could not be reached Monday.

Pray for Jessica's Surgery 10 August
As anathema to me, chain letters rarely bear reading much less forwarding.
Nonetheless from the unceasings news din and cacophony of the internets with outrages du jour in flavors for every taste in which I submerge myself, sometimes someone else's words speak to my heart, reminding joy can come from seemingly unceasing pain in lives of all God's children.
[If you weren’t an academic, you might define happiness as the experience of being fully alive. To know grace, and despair, and the kind of hardness you have to learn to stand against; to watch your family fail you when you need them the most, and have your ex-husband look around, shrug his shoulders, and hold out his hand to help you up again...
These are things you’d never know if you hadn’t had your daughter. Things you wouldn’t have had to know, and learn the hard way, bitterly.
If the medical resident hadn’t sat down while you held your baby girl in the neonatal intensive care unit and said...
...But the answer is, you are going to go home and do the best you can to make a life out of what you’ve been given.] http://jenniferlawler.com/wordpress/?p=747
Carnations for Jessica: http://jenniferlawler.com/wordpress/?p=751
So do not forward this to 5 friends, and you will not receive any $.
Do not send to 5 prayer buddies, and God will not answer any of your prayers unless She and/or He wishes.
Instead, look into yout heart and ask if you (You yourself and not any he or she or it or them you belong to, as Dylan sang) if YOU yourself can do anything--any 1 smallest damn thing like smile and listen to a child; buy a homeless person lunch, for Goddess' sake--to make the world a better place now, today.
Please ask your friends to read about and pray for Jessica. May the mother and daughter story teach us all to drink joy from the bitter cup we all sup, Life.

Burning Confederate Flag Illegal in FL
FL Statute 256.051 clearly violates 1st Amendment to the US Constitution, but have you ever used your right of free speech with a police officer in the performance of his duties?
[(2) It shall also be unlawful for any person, firm, or corporation to mutilate, deface, defile, or contemptuously abuse the flag or emblem of Florida or the flag or emblem of the Confederate States by any act whatever.] cited to me by editor of floridapolitics.com
I don’t mind getting arrested but incarceration sucks; sure you get free room and board but: food stinks; hotel staff has bad attitude, and you can’t check out when you want.
Besides, Orlando mis-leaders made panhandling a crime: [...Consider the sad cases of Roosevelt Richardson, incarcerated 123 times over 10 years for the crimes of: "panhandling and other petty crimes such as loitering, urinating in public and trespassing." (Full story below.)] That averages out to over once a month for TEN YEARS.

This blog post quotes from USSC Int’l Society of Krishna Consciousness vs Lee concerning Constitutional free speech of Krishnas selling literature in public forums
Don’t even get me started on Food Not Bombs vs Orlando court decision where judge ruled feeding the homeless did not constitute protected free speech, despite statements by a responding by a police ofc at the feeding and our esteemed Mayor, “Buddy Dyer.”
FNB cool for vegans but cannot personally make anything without some pork fat.

Good Golly Miss Dolly; Centenarian Dances W/ Four Scantily Clad Polynesian Dancers
[For Dolly Griffin's birthday, four scantily clad Polynesian dancers gyrated their hips, wowing the dining room crowd with their hula-style moves.
The Monday afternoon party was, for the centenarian, one of the best birthday presents she could ask for -- and she's hoping for many more.
``I don't feel 100 years old,'' said Griffin, her piercing blue-eyes aglow, ``and hopefully I don't look it.''
In a room accented by pink, yellow and green streamers, Griffin was joined by about 30 residents, staff members and friends at Jackson Memorial Hospital's Long Term Care Center, which she now calls home.
The residents, many of them in wheelchairs, enjoyed the show.
``You asked for male dancers, ladies?'' asked Roni Komie, the center's recreation therapy supervisor. ``Well, here they are.'']

Burn a Confederate Flag Day

No Homo Mayor Day Comes Before Burn a Qu'ran Day: My Bad
[A Florida church called the Dove World Outreach Center, in keeping with its pledge to "stand up for righteousness," is hosting "International Burn a Koran Day" on September 11. But only after the "No Homo Mayor" protest next month.
Pastor Terry Jones is a man of his word. He will stand up for his beliefs and preach the word of God from his pulpit at the Dove World Outreach Center, non-believers be damned. "International Burn a Koran Day" is simply a manifestation of Jones's love for the Lord Jesus Christ, and his quest to crush evildoers around the world:
Apostolic worship which is a conscious, deliberate effort during worship to change the spiritual world, that then works its way out into the natural world and becomes visible as victory over the enemy.
Who is "the enemy?" Muslims and gays, of course.]
My bad; I sometimes misremember scheduling of protests by hate spewing homophobic mouth breathing Neanderthals who have no clue whatsoever of Christian faith as actually preached by that long haired hippy dude Jesus, something about, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

"a large part of Congress...cares a lot about taxes on the richest 1 percent of the population"

(Quotes out of order, emphasis added.)
"The point is that a large part of Congress — large enough to block any action on jobs — cares a lot about taxes on the richest 1 percent of the population, but very little about the plight of Americans who can’t find work."
"First, we see Congress sitting on its hands, with Republicans and conservative Democrats refusing to spend anything to create jobs, and unwilling even to mitigate the suffering of the jobless."
"We’re told that we can’t afford to help the unemployed — that we must get budget deficits down immediately or the “bond vigilantes” will send U.S. borrowing costs sky-high. Some of us have tried to point out that those bond vigilantes are, as far as anyone can tell, figments of the deficit hawks’ imagination — far from fleeing U.S. debt, investors have been buying it eagerly, driving interest rates to historic lows. But the fearmongers are unmoved: fighting deficits, they insist, must take priority over everything else — everything else, that is, except tax cuts for the rich, which must be extended, no matter how much red ink they create."
"Two years from now unemployment will still be extremely high, quite possibly higher than it is now. But instead of taking responsibility for fixing the situation, politicians and Fed officials alike will declare that high unemployment is structural, beyond their control.]

Cubs "Fans" as Jews of Sports World
Having once again had the vile and baseless assertion of my being a Cubs fan thrown in my face by the inestimable Mr. Field Negro --a freakin' Phillies fan for Farook's sake--I must once again don my proud visage and sad armor of denial and write, "Wait 'til next year."
No living human being with a shred of sanity can root for a team that loses for 200 years. The only folk with longer losings streaks: Jews and the Irish.
As for the latter, they perhaps posit another 500 years will drive the English from the land of Eire but do so without hope other than in their cups.
The former still await their Messiah without any reason save those given in their Testament and Talmud.
Cubs fans have no such illusions, holy books, nor any shred of hope, rational or religious.
We have an incurable disease, hereditary and probably regressive since my "Cubs" gene comes from my maternal grandfather and father.
We suffer ignominious defeat season after season, year upon year, decade after damned decade.
How long, O LORD, will I call for a pennant,
And You will not hear?
I cry out to You, “Go Cubbies!”
Yet You do not notch a save.
So Field, if you call me a Cubs fan in print again, I will fall upon you like the Righteous Wrath of the Lord with the mighty name of Royko, with a million lawyer minions, injunctions, imprecations and curses on your manhood.
Have a nice day.

Cubs Carnage Continues: Gave up 11 Straight Hits in 8th Inning

That's when the Rockies made history by turning a three-run game into a 17-2 blowout.
``You don't expect an inning like that in the big leagues - anywhere,'' said Cubs manager Lou Piniella after the Rockies scored 12 times with two outs in the eighth.
``That was crazy. I don't think anything like that will ever happen again,'' said Sean Marshall, the Cubs' best reliever all season, who had two strikes on Carlos Gonzalez with two out and two on when the craziness began.] http://blogs.suntimes.com/cubs/2010/07/cubs_make_malodorous_history_i.html
Just when you think they have no depths of suckatudeleft to plumb, they find new bottomless pits of bad baseball.
[After Ryan Dempster's four-inning outing, the Rockies poured it on in a 12-run, 13-hit eighth inning against Sean Marshall, Andrew Cashner and Brian Schlitter. Colorado set a major league record with 11 straight hits, including six straight off Cashner, who served up two home runs.]

6 straight hits including 2 dingers, for Abner Doubleday's sainted sake.
Sheesh
