Don't Pay the Ransom; I Escaped

Edited for clarity on 2 October:

And Willard Mittens Romney, explain to me how someone who has survived and sometimes thrived for 34 years after a broken neck and who now walks but has to play wheel of Dr's appts--urologist, nephrologist, neurologist, gastroenterolgist and a primary who won't even do as much as write an antibiotics 'script' when i urinate milk due to a UTI unless i add the cab ride to and fro from his office, his $20 copay, plus $20 copay and more taxi fares to get lab tests to get what I already know I need--can afford all that on less than a grand a month in disability.

PS;  Wonder if i can get a cheap flight to Costa Rica where socialized medicine can give me the care needed.

PPS:  Screw that, too far from my nieces and sis' who still talks to me.  Fidel, can I get me some care in Cuba?

From the Pen of a Kid: Romney, go back to MA

That's the fact, Jack! If a 12 year old can figure this fool out, why can't Republican'ts?

Jackson Ripley, age 12:
[Dear Governor Romney,

I’d like to say congratulations on winning the republican nomination. But, I wish you stayed in Massachusetts. You’re plan for America isn’t what we need, and would hurt us more than it would help.

First, repealing Obama care and other health plans he’s put in place have helped families across America, including mine. I live in a middle class family, and two years ago my little sister; Kennedy was denied insurance because of her pre-existing condition. This was a huge emotional stress and financial burden on my entire family. Under Obama Care, insurance companies can no longer deny Kennedy and kids like her, the coverage they need and deserve. Because of Obama care my little sister was able to have the several surgeries she needed that helped save her life. Once the President was elected he put Obama Care into action, just like he promised and made it so that you could get insurance with pre-existing conditions. This has made a direct impact on my family. My family is with out a doubt better off now, than we were four years ago!

It is to my understanding that you stated that you were going to repeal Obama Care, including the part I have mentioned, which will take away the insurance we have and need for my sister Kennedy. Why do you think she doesn’t deserve health care? Also, when you were interviewed on “Meet the Press”, you stated that you would NOT repeal this part of Obama Care, but then your campaign backpedalled and on the “Tonight show with Jay Leno”, you said that you WOULD repeal this.

Also, you’re domestic plans (birth control, gay rights etc.) are horrible! Women should get to manage their own health, and if you wonder why you’re not appealing to many women voters, rethink your birth control and women’s’ rights plans. And people should be able to marry whom they want. We built this country so people could have freedom, and not have religious beliefs control them to that length. This country was in no way built on any religion, so we should not create laws that repress the American people in a religious way and hurt our most vulnerable.

Sincerely,
Jackson Ripley, age 12] my emphasis

Drop Internet Explorer

[Computerworld - Germany's cybersecurity agency on Monday urged users to drop Internet Explorer (IE) and switch to a rival, like Chrome or Firefox, until Microsoft patches a new critical bug in its browser.

In an alert released Monday, Germany's Federal Office for Information Security, known by its German initials of BSI for "Bundesamt fuer Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik," noted that the unpatched vulnerability is already being exploited by hackers, and that "the attack code is freely available on the Internet."

BSI then advised users to stop running IE for now.

"The BSI recommends all users of Internet Explorer use an alternative browser ... until {Microsoft} has released a security update," the watchdog agency said.]

Socialism in the Bible

“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free
    and break every yoke?
Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter
when you see the naked, to clothe them,
and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
Then your light will break forth like the dawn,
    and your healing will quickly appear;
then your righteousness[a] will go before you,
and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.
Then you will call, and the Lord will answer;
you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.
If you do away with the yoke of oppression,
with the pointing finger and malicious talk,
10 and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry
and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,
then your light will rise in the darkness,
and your night will become like the noonday.

Huzzah, all keys working, even "n" and "b."  Got it for $11.98, shipping included, from newegg where dad got Dell from.  Sure like that company, especially since local office depot store had $30 for cheapest in store last week.

Golly, do you realize how hard it becomes to try and write real (as opposed to text speak) English without b's and n's?

You'll really miss n's, maybe b's not so much.

Already try to write without alleged verb "is" and avoid metaphor and despite my low self esteem and classic narcissism, so gets crowded in my head, what with all that righteous fury and indignation at Moloch and mammon worshiping elites.

"Smartphones and tablets may be making you sleepless, fat and sick"

[Computerworld - Having trouble sleeping? Gaining a bit of weight?

Your smartphone or computer might be to blame.

Actually, the problem is more likely about your obsession with your laptop and devices than the devices themselves.

A new study from researchers at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. shows that even a two-hour exposure to any backlit device - smartphone, laptop, tablet - suppresses your body's ability to produce melatonin, which could cause sleeplessness, especially in teens and seniors.

Melatonin is a hormone that helps regulates the body's sleep clock.

The study also showed that exposure to back lighting over the course of "many consecutive" years could also lead to an increased risk for obesity and diabetes, as well as breast cancer.

"Technology developments have led to bigger and brighter televisions, computer screens, and cell phones," said university researcher Brittany Wood, who worked on the study. "This is particularly worrisome in populations such as young adults and adolescents, who already tend to be night owls."]

Willard Lets True Feelings Show

Hey Mitt, you pustule on he body politic, I pay plenty of taxes, mainly sales taxes, which come more dearly to me than thou.

[Romney replied:
"There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax."

Romney went on: "[M]y job is is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

"Bacon Number:" Kewl Google Easter Egg

Update: Found Otto Jespersen, an actor with 0, nada, zip, zilch, degrees to Kevin  Bacon.

Gotcha, Google fiendish algorithm!

Guess Google ain't all evil.

[To aid the search for those connections, Google incorporated an Easter Egg search function on Thursday that makes it possible for people to search "Bacon Number" followed by an actor's name and see how many steps it takes to link them to the Apollo 13 star.

With the introduction of this new function, it quickly became clear that the Bacon Number is not the hallowed symbol for Hollywood connectivity it once seemed, with most results showing an easy four or fewer associations to get to the actor.

"Anybody who is in modern Hollywood is basically two degrees from Kevin Bacon," said Patrick Reynolds, a computer scientist who runs the Oracle of Bacon site, which has been doing basically the same thing as the Google function since 1995 using the Internet Movie Database to analyze connection data.

What's more, said Reynolds, approximately 99% of the 2.5 million actors in the IMDb are four degrees or fewer from Bacon. Which is why those seeking a true six-degrees challenge, should pick someone like young actress Elizabeth Olsen (Bacon Number: 2)....

People like William Rufus Shafter, an army officer from the American civil war, who appeared as himself in two short silent films from 1898, and is one of 27 people who are a rule-breaking eight degrees from Bacon.

And the notion that Bacon can always be reached by six degrees or less as the most connected actor in Hollywood is resoundingly false. There are 196 other actors whose connection is greater than the six-degree mark, which is one reason why the site has Bacon currently ranked as the 444th most connected actor in Hollywood.

He cedes top billing as the most connected to Sean Connery, Dennis Hopper and Christopher Lee who are regularly at the top on the site's thousand most-connected actors list.]

[It was the smirk that did it....

One does not smirk when discussing a horrific act. No matter how much you feel the act may benefit you personally, presuming you are the sort of monster that thinks such things, one does not smirk when discussing acts of murder and violence. Even if you have the emotional capacity of a gnat, even if your own ambitions are so great that you cannot help it, one does not smirk. Not, at the very least, when the event is fresh, and the repercussions of the act still unknown, and the possibility of further violence still unclear. Even if you are indeed an outright monster, there ought to be no inner glee visible on your face as you stand before the nation to discuss how a set of still-fresh murders proves your own worth. That was the part where Mr. Romney turned from being a deplorable politician to being a repulsive human being. World's richest woman on wages

[The world's richest woman, Australian mining tycoon Gina Rinehart, drew international scorn recently after saying that people who are jealous of the wealthy should drink less and work harder....

Speaking at the Sydney Mining Club, Rinehart said her country's mining industry couldn't compete with nations that are willing to pay workers less than $2 a day for their sweat and labor.

The implicit suggestion: Employers should be free to pay workers whatever they please.

This echoes Rinehart's earlier to-do list, in which she urged Aussie lawmakers to cut the minimum wage so that, well, she wouldn't have to spend so much money on things like workers' salaries and benefits....

Rinehart knows what it means to pull yourself up by the bootstraps. She inherited a fortune now estimated to be worth about $18 billion. That's a heavy burden to bear.]

Beer Drinkers & Obama Voters

[....Remarkably, every one of the 25 most densely brewed states voted for Obama in 2008. Those blue states account for 335 electoral votes - much more than the 270 needed for victory....

What's really important here is the type of beer voters are drinking....

Consider that craft-beer drinkers, according to demographic studies by the Nielsen Co. and others, are mainly white and male.

This is exactly the sector that's posing the biggest challenge for Obama in November. The latest polls show he trails GOP candidate Mitt Romney by a whopping 60 percent to 34 percent among white males. That's enough of a gap to overcome his lead among women and minorities in some swing states.

As it happens, though, eight of the nation's 10 swing states rank above the median number of breweries per square mile. Which is to say, the battleground is well lubricated.

It appears the Obama campaign is trying to trim the president's voter gap among white males by targeting craft-beer drinkers.]

Dishonest or Despicable, You Decide 5 November

[“There’s a pretty compelling story that if you had a President Romney, you’d be in a different situation,” Romney adviser Richard Williamson told theWashington Post. “For the first time since Jimmy Carter, we’ve had an American ambassador assassinated.”

He blamed the attack that killed Stevens on Obama’s handling of the region, arguing that the Muslim world would have held the hypothetical Romney administration of 2008-2012 in much greater esteem, which would have prevented violent protests over an anti-Muslim film like the one that led to Stevens’s death.

“In Egypt and Libya and Yemen, again demonstrations — the respect for America has gone down, there’s not a sense of American resolve and we can’t even protect sovereign American property,” he said.

Williamson served as an official under President George W. Bush. Numerous deadly attacks on diplomatic compounds in countries like Pakistan, Yemen and Syria took place during the Bush administration. When countries around the world were engulfed in protests over Danish cartoons depicting the prophet Muhammad, the Bush administration condemned the material as “unacceptable” even as it repeated the United States’s dedication to free speech.....

The Obama campaign slammed Williamson’s comments Thursday: “It is astonishing that the Romney campaign continues to shamelessly politicize a sensitive international situation,” Obama campaign press secretary Ben LaBolt said. “The fact is that any president of either party is going to be confronted by crises while in office, and Gov. Romney continues to demonstrate that he is not at all prepared to manage them.”]  emphasis added to emphasize treason

Hey, Repulican'ts, We On Mars, Bitches!

[Independent video producer Bard Canning spent four weeks painstakingly reprocessing imagery released earlier by NASA showing the rover’s near-perfect descent as captured by its onboard Mars Descent Imager (MARDI), a downward facing camera.

The original imagery, 297 frames, was compiled by NASA into a video that shows the rover’s final two-and-a-half minutes of a 14-minute, hair-raising descent that involved an abrupt 14,000-mile-per-hour to zero slowdown. The rover began capturing the imagery just before it ejected its heat shield, which can be seen in the first few seconds of the video.

Canning used a video processing technique known as motion-flow interpolation, which involves creating new frames to fit in between existing frames, increasing the overall frame rate from the original, which was just 4-frames-per-second, and making the video appear more fluid at 30 frames-per-second. He also enhanced the color and the detail of the imagery and re-rendered it at “enterprise-quality 1080p, 50,000 kbps (instead of the usual ~1000kbps).”

“I manually added thousands of motion-tracking and adjustment points,” Canning wrote of his process on Reddit, “I had to go the laborious manual route because the frame-rate is too low causing the footage to jerk around too quickly for automated motion tracking to handle it.”]

"He is a walking pre-existing condition"

See politics as personal.

What would you feel like if it were your child or grandchild?

How would you vote?

[So Romney announces he'd keep parts of Obamacare like insuring those with pre-existing conditions with David Gregory on the Sunday morning show and then within hours he is "clarified" by one of his minions.

I am the grandmother of an absolutely adorable little boy named Daniel. He has CHARGE syndrome which means he spent the first five months of his life in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. He's had eleven operations and has maintained a mostly cheerful attitude the whole time. He was born with a mess of "pre-existing conditions" including half formed semicircular canals in his ears (causes both deafness and lack of internal balance), breathing difficulties that necessitated a trach along with oxygen at night and various inhalent treatments morning and night. He's fed thru a tube in his tummy from a backpack he can wear while moving about.

Any messing with Obamacare is regarded by everyone in our family as a direct attack on this child. He's already blown thru most insurance companies' lifetime limits. He is a walking pre-existing condition and we are damned grateful he's learned to walk. We want him to stay alive and I'm not about to let any politician claim how pro-life they are and cast a vote to hurt or kill Daniel.]

Poverty of the Elites: Free market famine in Ireland

The Graves are Walking: Free trade uber alles.

[....It is still an insane thought that the most successful country in the world at the time allowed millions to starve in Ireland, its’ closest colonial neighbor.

Imagine the US, the land of plenty, allowing millions of Hawaiians to starve in a Famine there and you get some sense of the absurdity....

But also documented here is O’Connell’s disastrous decision to throw in his lot with Whig leader Lord John Russell who became Prime Minister in July 1846 at the beginning of the worst period of the Famine....

But in the process he backed a man who had become a fully-fledged free trader who insisted that market prices must be received and no government intervention made – even when the result was millions of Irish starving because they could not afford to buy the imported corn.

Russell’s predecessor, the Tory leader Sir Robert Peel, as Kelly points out, had adopted a far more humane policy and had been widely praised for ordering and freeing up imported corn for starving Irish the previous year when the worst of the Famine was blunted.] emphasis added to fa

[Rock’n’roll great Bruce Springsteen has received a welcome bump after the Democratic National Convention when his tune ‘We Take Care of Our Own’ played right after President Barack Obama’s speech.

The Huffington Post reports that ‘We Take Care of Our Own’ jumped an astounding 409 per cent following its use at the DNC. The song was downloaded 2000 times, which Billboard reports is the most since March....

Despite the song officially being added to Obama’s political campaign playlist, Springsteen is insisting that he is not throwing his support behind any candidate for election 2012 like he did back in 2008.

“I prefer to stay on the sidelines," Springsteen told ABC News in January. "I genuinely believe an artist [is] supposed to be the canary in the coal mine, and you’re better off with a certain distance from the seat of power."

While Springsteen would have liked to have seen "more activism in job creation sooner than it came," he did say he thought Obama had done a good job thus far in his presidency.

Said Springsteen, “He kept GM alive, which was incredibly important to Detroit and Michigan, and he got the health care law passed, although I wish there had been a public option and didn’t leave the citizens victims of the insurance companies. He killed Osama bin Laden, which was extremely important. He brought some sanity to the top level of government.”] emphasis added

The Onion nails Willard: Mitt sez: "We Should Never Apologize For American Values Or Japanese Internment Camps"

[....A chorus of critics, including some conservatives, has since condemned the Republican presidential nominee for launching a political attack in the midst of a crisis. And Romney’s timing was, indeed, terrible. But his statement was offensive on many other levels.

Romney was wrong on the facts. The alleged expression of sympathy was issued not by President Obama or Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, but by the US embassy in Cairo, in response to protests in Egypt. It came before protesters had breached the walls of the Cairo embassy, and before any reports of deaths in Libya.

Romney was wrong on substance. The statement from the Cairo embassy said the United States condemns “the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims — as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions.” In the midst of massing protests, this statement was a wise act of diplomacy. It sought to correct the notion that the US government was somehow responsible for the YouTube video. It aimed to quell the protests and prevent bloodshed.

Romney was wrong as a matter of policy. As the candidate explained at a press conference Wednesday morning, he lashed out at the Cairo statement because it amounted to “an apology for American values.” Romney has relentlessly portrayed Obama’s efforts to present American actions in terms likely to lessen tensions in the Middle East and elsewhere as “apologies,” without any real evidence. He still has none. The Cairo statement was, in fact, an affirmation of an American value — the freedom of religion.] to paraphrase Harry S Truman  emphasis added because Mitt is a no good lying son of a bitch.

[WASHINGTON (AP) — The gunfire at the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, had barely ceased when Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney seriously mischaracterized what had happened in a statement accusing President Barack Obama of "disgraceful" handling of violence there and at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo.

"The Obama administration's first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks," Romney said in a statement first emailed to reporters at 10:09 p.m. Eastern time, under the condition it not be published until midnight.

In fact, neither a statement by the U.S. Embassy in Cairo earlier in the day nor a later statement from Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton offered sympathy for attackers. The statement from the Cairo Embassy had condemned anti-Muslim religious incitement before the embassy walls were breached. In her statement, issued minutes before Romney's, Clinton had offered the administration's first response to the violence in Libya, explicitly condemning the attack there and confirming the death of a State Department official.] emphasis added 'cause this waste of huma

Margaret & Helen Rock!

[....I think the Republicans had it hard. After four years of obstructing government, they had to do something really difficult. They had to put together a convention in Tampa while God flooded Louisianna. They had to convince a bunch of white, christians that camels are skinnier and needles have bigger eyes these days. And then they had to breathe life into a $3,000 business suit.

Listen, if you’re going to hold a convention and interrupt three days of my programs, then you better at least tell me something I didn’t already know. And you better damn well not take me for a fool. And speaking of fools, Ann Romney broke my heart. I am still horrified at the struggles she and Mitt had to go through before they got out of wealthy to become fantastically wealthy. It was just so emotional to watch her standing there in a pair of $1,300 shoes describing the horrors of their early years eating penne pasta and ahi tuna fish on an ironing board because Mitt asked his Dad for money to start a new business instead of for the new furniture she wanted. Well, my heart just broke for her. It did....

Seriously, the one who had it the hardest was, of course, Mitt. He had to look alive and almost human. He had to explain how he is Pro-Life whenever he isn’t running for an office that needs him to be Pro-Choice. He had to explain how he turned things around in Massachusetts by inventing Obamacare before Obama so that five years later he could explain how Obamacare is the root of all evil. And he had to make a case that Democrats are bad for business despite the fact that he amassed a fortune at Bain while Bill Clinton was President.]

Let's see the private sector fix this.

[Shoppers are not the only ones feeling the squeeze of rising food prices.

Shelves are going bare in food banks and pantries as more market demand for food means the federal government is buying less produce, meat and dairy products to give to the needy.

As a result, food banks and pantries nationwide say they are giving out less food, even as record numbers of families turn to them.]

"Mr. Townsend, do you think we live in Afghanistan?"

[A spokesman for Rep. Nan Hayworth (R-N.Y.) is facing criticism after advocating violence against female Democratic senators in a Facebook post.

Jay Townsend, the official campaign spokesman for the freshman representative, went on a vicious online rant on Saturday, which he began by taunting a constituent who voiced criticism about an earlier post on gas prices. "Listen to Tom. What a little bee he has in his bonnet. Buzz Buzz," Townsend wrote.

"My question today... when is Tommy boy going to weigh in on all the Lilly Ledbetter hypocrites who claim to be fighting the War on Women? Let’s hurl some acid at those female democratic Senators who won’t abide the mandates they want to impose on the private sector."]

"Bear-hugged President Barack"

[BY ALEXANDRA SELTZER
PALM BEACH POST

In the 24 hours, Port St. Lucie resident Scott Van Duzer has gone from a local pizza store owner to a man wanted across the world after he bear-hugged President Barack Obama Sunday afternoon....

“I didn’t know I was going to hug the guy,” founder of the Van Duzer Foundation said. “It was something special that I’ll never forget....”

The registered Republican voted for Obama in 2008 and plans to vote for him this year again.

It’s his message of change and his genuine personality that Van Duzer likes most.

“I saw it first-hand,” Van Duzer said of the president’s personality. “It didn’t feel like it was just another stop on his tour.”

Before continuing to his next stop, Obama spent almost $200 on a variation of pizza pies and left the waitresses with more than a 30 percent tip, Van Duzer said.]

Weasel Words

[When someone uses language that implies a definite fact without stating it outright, they're using weasel words. The most common are when you attribute opinions to unnamed strangers. Ads include statements like, "Combined with diet and exercise, many experts agree that this pill could drastically increase the size of your penis and raise your credit card score." The "many experts agree" are the weasel words there.]Read more: 6 Subtle Ways The News Media Disguises Bullshit As Fact | Cracked.com http://www.cracked.com/article_18458_6-subtle-ways-news-media-disguises-bullshit-as-fact.html#ixzz26EubWDlN

The Line

[The Line documents the stories of people across the country living at or below the poverty line. They have goals. They have children. They work hard. They are people like you and me.

From Chicago's suburbs and west side to the Gulf Coast to North Carolina, millions of Americans are struggling every day to make it above The Line.]

Pat Robertson, Prophet or Crazy Fool; You Decide

From Americablog, my remarks in Italics.

[Pat Robertson isn't just an old religious right leader. He's a hateful nut. A sampling of what kind of hate and quackery Mitt Romney is now embracing in his desperate quest for the presidency:
Haitian ambassador responds to Pat Robertson's remarks today about Haiti paying a price for making a pact with the devil.  {As if endemic poverty in Haiti not high enough price for vulture capitalism?}

Then there was the time that Pat said that God gave Ariel Sharon his stroke as punishment.  {What punishment for Pat, swarm of locusts or gaggle of gays?}

Or the time God told Pat that he might just send a tsunami to America.  (& said hurricane would hit Orlando, punishing whole city--guilty & innocent--for "sin" of flying little, small, rainbow flags on a few light poles.  Sheesh, a hurricane will hit FL, some prediction.  I prophesy the same.}

Or the time Robertson said it's better to just divorce a spouse with Alzheimer's.

Or the time Robertson said that Episcopalians, Methodists and Presbyterians are tied to the anti-Christ.  {Howzabout Lutherans, Pat?}

Then there's all of this: ...]

Purchase an iPad, Kill a Puppy.

OK, literally, I lied, but folk who worship Mammon and put profit before human progress care more for puppies, or dressage horses, than children.

[THOUSANDS of students in an east China city are being forced to work at a Foxconn plant after classes were suspended at the beginning of the new semester, it has been revealed.

Students from Huai'an in Jiangsu Province were driven to a factory in the city run by Taiwan's Foxconn Technology Company after the plant couldn't find sufficient workers for the production of Apple's much-anticipated iPhone 5, they said in online posts.

A student majoring in computing at the Huaiyin Institute of Technology said 200 students from her school had been driven to the factory.

They started work on the production line last Thursday and were being paid 1,550 yuan (US$243.97) a month for working six days a week, she said.

But they had to pay hundreds of yuan for food and accommodation, she said in an online post under the name of mengniuIQ84.

Several other students from at least five colleges backed up what she said, saying they were being forced to work for 12 hours a day.]

Geeks Without Humour

Gosh, who knew geeks had zero sese of humour.  C'mon, let your geek flag fly.  besides, every 1 of parody statements true.

["Star Wars" fans have not taken kindly to recent ridicule from Miami's WPLG Local 10 News. Instead, they've started a worldwide -- er, intergalactic -- campaign to demand a “formal public apology" from the station, whose Facebook has been flooded by angry comments.

The fandom accuses Local 10 of cyberbullying in the "very rude and insulting" captions of a since-removed online slideshow of a recent "Star Wars" convention in Orlando. A few examples of the jabs, according to screenshots saved on Facebook:
"A reproduction of their prom picture... no girls."

“Someone got lost looking for the AARP convention.”

"Dateless men for as far as they eye can see. "

"These were a group of guys that spent the entire weekend jumping into other people's pictures. It was MUCH lamer than it sounds."

"Here's a shocker... it's dudes taking pics of the fake Princess Leias. Like they've never seen a woman before. Well, hmmm..."]

Football Player Dogs Idiot

[Baltimore Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo has spoken out in favor of a Maryland ballot initiative that would legalize gay marriage. Yahoo has published a letter that Maryland state delegate Emmett C. Burns Jr. wrote last week to Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti, urging him to "inhibit such expressions from your employee." This is Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe's response to Burns.

Dear Emmett C. Burns Jr.,

I find it inconceivable that you are an elected official of Maryland's state government. Your vitriolic hatred and bigotry make me ashamed and disgusted to think that you are in any way responsible for shaping policy at any level. The views you espouse neglect to consider several fundamental key points, which I will outline in great detail (you may want to hire an intern to help you with the longer words):

1. As I suspect you have not read the Constitution, I would like to remind you that the very first, the VERY FIRST Amendment in this founding document deals with the freedom of speech, particularly the abridgment of said freedom. By using your position as an elected official (when referring to your constituents so as to implicitly threaten the Ravens organization) to state that the Ravens should "inhibit such expressions from your employees," more specifically Brendon Ayanbadejo, not only are you clearly violating the First Amendment, you also come across as a narcissistic fromunda stain. What on earth would possess you to be so mind-boggingly stupid? It baffles me that a man such as yourself, a man who relies on that same First Amendment to pursue your own religious studies without fear of persecution from the state, could somehow justify stifling another person's right to speech. To call that hypocritical would be to do a disservice to the word. Mindfucking obscenely hypocritical starts to approach it a little bit.....

3. This is more a personal quibble of mine, but why do you hate freedom? Why do you hate the fact that other people want a chance to live their lives and be happy, even though they may believe in something different than you, or act different than you? How does gay marriage, in any way shape or form, affect your life?]

What world is this when you face arrest for Joker hair at movies

[BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. —

A man who was arrested Wednesday after he walked into a Melbourne movie theater dressed as the infamous Batman villain the Joker is being held in the jail's mental health ward.

Theater-goers reported a man with pink hair wearing Joker-like makeup at the Premiere Theater on West Hibiscus Boulevard.

Police arrested Christopher Sides, 21, of Cocoa, on an unrelated warrant in which he failed to appear in court on a drug charge. In court on Thursday, a judge refused to increase Sides’ $5,500 bond after learning he was in a mental facility in Port St. Lucie at the time....

While in court, Sides said he wasn't dressing up, claiming he dyes his hair a different color every day.

“I was dressed in my everyday clothes,” Sides said. “I dye my hair different colors on a normally (sic) daily basis.”

Sides claimed he had no knowledge of the massacre in which James Holmes is suspected of killing 12 people in an Aurora, Colo., movie theater during a screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" in July.]

Religious Freedom Test

1. My religious liberty is at risk because:
A) I am not allowed to go to a religious service of my own choosing.
B) Others are allowed to go to religious services of their own choosing.
2. My religious liberty is at risk because:
A) I am not allowed to marry the person I love legally, even though my religious community blesses my marriage.
B) Some states refuse to enforce my own particular religious beliefs on marriage on those two guys in line down at the courthouse.
3. My religious liberty is at risk because:
A) I am being forced to use birth control.
B) I am unable to force others to not use birth control....
5. My religious liberty is at risk because:
A) Being a member of my faith means that I can be bullied without legal recourse.
B) I am no longer allowed to use my faith to bully gay kids with impunity.
8. My religious liberty is at risk because:
A) Another religious group has been declared the official faith of my country.
B) My own religious group is not given status as the official faith of my country.
9. My religious liberty is at risk because:
A) My religious community is not allowed to build a house of worship in my community.
B) A religious community I do not like wants to build a house of worship in my community....Scoring key:

If you answered "A" to any question, then perhaps your religious liberty is indeed at stake. You and your faith group have every right to now advocate for equal protection under the law. But just remember this one little, constitutional, concept: this means you can fight for your equality -- not your superiority.
If you answered "B" to any question, then not only is your religious liberty not at stake, but there is a strong chance that you are oppressing the religious liberties of others. This is the point where I would invite you to refer back to the tenets of your faith, especially the ones about your neighbors.]

Paul Ryan Lies

Paul Ryan lies.  He lies all the time, about all issues.  He may believe crap he spouts like Old Unfaithful but failure to use logic to consider facts his ideology disapproves of makes him a liar.

A HUGE FAT LIAR!

[And Ryan’s Tampa speech, while pretty dishonest, was not especially so by Ryan’s standards. Here you can see why Ryan must view the sudden attack of the truth squad so bewilderingly. Ryan has been saying things like this, and worse, all along. The bit where he sadly shakes his head and blames President Obama for the failure of the Bowles-Simpson deficit commission that Ryan killed himself has been a staple of the Ryan shtick for two years. Reporters usually bat their eyes and coo sympathetically. Now it has become evidence of his duplicity .

Ryan seems to have fallen victim to circumstances he didn’t quite foresee. The Romney campaign has spent the last several weeks practically daring the national press corps to call out its lies. Well beyond the usual exaggerations of a national campaign, Romney has built its entire message around two accusations — “you didn’t build that” and “just send them a check” — that are obviously false. A day before Ryan’s speech, a Romney adviser told reporters, “We're not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact-checkers.” The media that had spent the last two and a half years nuzzling gently in Ryan’s lap had been prodded with sharp sticks and reacted in the predictable fashion, though probably not predictable to Ryan himself.

The thing about Ryan is that he has always resided in a counter-factual universe. He is a product of the hermetically sealed right-wing subculture. Many of the facts taken for granted by mainstream economists have never penetrated his brain. Ryan burst onto the national scene with a dense, fact-laden attack on the financing of Obama’s health-care bill that was essentially a series of hallucinations, pseudo-facts cooked up and recirculated by conservative apparatchiks who didn’t know what they were talking about ordidn’t care. His big-think speeches reflect the influence of fact-free conservatives and collapse under scrutiny.] EMPHASIS ADDED

Romneyhood at Work

Steelworkers Expose the Real Mitt Romney at DNC

Romneyhood: Take from the poor to give to the rich.

[CHARLOTTE — Employees at three companies that went bankrupt after being taken over by Bain Capital spoke at the Democratic convention on Wednesday, accusing Romney’s firm of exploiting workers for profit.

President Obama has spent months attacking Romney’s business career, which the Republican nominee has put at the top of his political resume, using stories from the companies whose laid-off workers were represented onstage.

The most dramatic tale came from Randy Johnson, a former worker at Bain-owned Ampad in the 1990s, who described how the private equity group took over the company, fired its workers, then invited them to reapply for jobs with lower benefits.

“What affected me most was having guys the age I am now come to my desk, and cry; guys who had nothing to fall back on,” Johnson said.

Ampad eventually went bankrupt. But Bain made about $100 million off the deal through management fees and the sale of its stock.]
