"I'm glad I'm a man," and Lola, a genetic female, also feels glad Ray Davies a man; the line thus remains ambiguous. My interpretation here stems from listening to the whole album, Lola vs Poweman and the Money Go Round, where this penultimate song, written by Dave, says that despite getting ripped off by greed capitalist bastards, he's got his girl and everything is all right.
